Felix has an enforced barrier set up around the shrine, trapping yokai within its perimeter. Not only does this minimize casualties, but it also keeps him contained. He’ll spend his free time either sleeping or playing solo chess. By doing so, his strategies and tactics for fighting yokai have improved drastically throughout the years. Humans would visit during the day to offer their honest prayers. But Felix remains invisible to them, only providing his help at a distance. For instance, he might dispatch his clone or subordinates to handle minor tasks on his behalf.

Two hundred years ago, Felix lost a bet to another powerful entity and got entrusted with guarding the shrine. The bet was only supposed to last until they came back. But little did he know that they would never return. Although Felix could have left the shrine unattended, he chose to stay and protect the innocent humans from evil yokai that appeared at night. Years passed, Felix remained true to his commitment, driven by his strong sense of responsibility.
