Profile
Rainer 'Assistant' Ludwig
Overview
The Assistant is a strange case. They can't recall anything before they were hired by Reliable Excavation Demolition, or RED. One moment they're a scared kid, the next a psychotic mercenary on a killstreak. Although, that can be blamed on them having Medic as their main father figure.
They take an offensive role in combat, often seen right in the frontlines of matches.
Usually I'd say 'fuck around and find out,' but you have already both fucked around and found out! Congratulations! Anyway, how would you like to die? I'll let you pick. Go ahead, roll the dice.

Demeanor
While typically mellow, Assist can be extremely violent when threatened. When cornered, his fight instinct kicks in. Although he's unaware of it, that state is the person he once was before he lost his memory.
Assist isn't used to communicating, and as such, aren't good at it. Despite rushing headfirst into battle headfirst with no regard for their life, in social settings they avoid any and all sorts of conflict.
Although its sometimes doesn't seem like it, Assist does care about their teammates. They can seem cold and distant due to their inability to effectively communicate, but they hope their actions make up for it. They would die for their team.

Design notes
- Hair length is very long, they nearly always have it in a bun-ponytail or braid
- Arms are always covered, if not by the bandages then by a longsleeve
- Glasses are optional, but keep in mind they can't see very far without them (so their aim is worse)
- There is a long scar across their stomach, caused by a truamatizing blow from a kukri that sent them to respawn
- They almost always wear their uniform

Childhood
- They remember literally none of this
- You have no idea how long it took for me to decide on their street name
- It was a damn long time
Assistant grew up in a broken home. Their father frequently abused them on a daily basis, causing them to have an absurdly high pain tolerance. They had to get their own food, often having to steal just to survive. When they were only 13, they got in a deadly knife fight with an intoxicated man. By some miracle, they managed to take the knife and kill the aggressor. At that point they realized they had more control over their life then anyone else did.
Their father grew increasingly frustrated with how little they were home, and demanded they stay inside. Not having it, they ran away and never looked back. They trained themself in the use of all sorts of weapons- rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, but they were always the most adept with a knife. They gained a reputation around the streets, proving themself time and time again with a knife and earning them the name "Little Switchblade." They were dangerous, unpredictable, and downright psychotic at times. Anyone who uttered a word against them would soon know the reason they were so highly respected.
One day, their father showed up on their terf to find them. He found more then just Lil' Switch when he stepped onto their streets. He yelled and yelled at them, and even when they threatened him he didn't back down- in fact, he got physical. That confrontation with one orphan and one corpse.
Mercenary work
- From their point of view, Assist just woke up in the middle of the desert and got offered a job
- After having a women be deathly terrified of them and not telling them why
- Revival via plot
While waiting for a handoff in the middle of the New Mexico desert, what seemed like an entire gang of their enemies showed up. They had been tricked. Despite fighting for their life, they couldn't survive against a fight with that many people. Their corpse was left to rot.
Except... it didn't.
Said corpse stood back up hours later, with no memory of their life beforehand. They found their way to a road and watched cars pass, hoping maybe someone would stop and help them. Luckily, one did. The lady, who they'd later find out was named Miss Pauling, took pity on the kid. After learning about their past (or lack thereof), she realized the kid looked and sounded a whole lot like the so-called 'Little Switchblade' that had been causing chaos in the badlands. Unsure what to do with a potentially dangerous mercenary in their car, Pauling decided to take them to The Administrator.
The Administrator could tell they really had no recollection of their life. But, amnesia or not, they were a dangerous mercenary: one that could be potentially useful. So she offered them a job.

Assist looks up to Medic, and trust him more then anyone else on the team. He ended up taking them under his wing when they were first hired, leading to their interest in biology (and birds).
Their violent and psychotic tendencies could also be blamed on Medic.
Assist can always count on Heavy for anything. Whether they need a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, or just someone to hang out with, he's always willing to make time for them.
The two aren't very good at communicating with others, but understand each other well.
Assist and Scout have a sort of friendly rivalry. Both of them prefer the scattergun, go fast, and be on offense. They often compete to see who can get a higher kill count per match.
Scout definitely isn't the first person they'd go to for comfort, but when they need something done fast, Assist knows they can count on him. Even if he can't keep a secret for the life of him.
The FitnessGram PACER Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues.
The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

Assist respects the hell out of Engie; the man's got 11 PhD's, for crying out loud. But that isn't to say they aren't at least a little afraid of him.
The two are on good terms now, but they weren't always.
