Title

Calamity of the Seas

Profile

Hyunwoo is a gentle and kind soul who does his best to play mediator in conflict, his optimism and patience serving him well in such roles. He is however at core a very selfish and cowardly person, and he does his best every day to overcome what he considers his flaws.  He is too forgiving, to his detriment.  He is too generous, to the point he often lacks basic necessities.  His expectations of himself and others are incredibly and unfairly high, and he is disappointed often that his peers do not meet them.

He is someone who gives his absolute everything to what he considers is worth it, for the better or for worse.

Eventually his trust in the world is broken, and he begins prepare to destroy the Prototype in order to bring it and its people salvation.

He loved fantasy books and fairytales.

History:

Hyunwoo was a young man who ran away from a troubled home.  He made a promise to his older sister to choose to be kind, but this promise evolved into a chain over the years which eventually led to his downfall.

Trading his voice for the guise of a human youth that would last for 10 years, he awoke on an abandoned beach near a small fishing village.  There he lived as a street rat alongside 3 other youths, until he was recruited by the Alitari military for the war efforts in exchange for better lives for his new friends.

Hyunwoo came to the conclusion over the years that the war waged against Nore by Alitari was meaningless.  He defected when he couldn’t take the senseless violence any longer.

On his journey, he reunited with a former captain who sheltered him and treated him as family.  The captain had gotten married and had earned a short leave, and his family warmly welcomed Hyunwoo into their circle.  Hyunwoo became the godfather to their child before continuing his journey.

Unfortunately the captain passed away on rhe field, leaving a grief-stricken mother and isolated child behind.  Hyunwoo returned to them, taking over the care of the child for 3 peaceful years.

Eventually though his years as a human came to an end.  He left the family under the excuse of wanderlust, returning to the sea.  On the way, he was recaptured by the Alitari military, who persecuted him for defection.  During his captivity, the spell that kept him human broke, and he became a research subject.

He lost his faith in the current iteration of humanity, and destroyed the research facility he was held captive in.  He escaped into the west sea, falling into an uneasy slumber at the center of the roots of the world tree.

His dreams and nightmares influenced the world tree, and the world shifted.  Odd monsters made of dark miasma began to appear, and cracks emerged where inside the laws of reality were broken.

Prophecies emerged that spoke of a slumbering monster called the ‘calamity of the seas’, who was fated to destroy the world when he awoke.

Unaware of the all this of course, Hyunwoo slept on for 100 years, merging with the world tree.  The experiments the Alitari researchers had performed had destroyed his physical body, which the world tree attempted to repair.

When he awoke, he had gained a lot of second-hand knowledge through memories that passed through him from the world tree, many of pain and suffering.  He was tired.  He wanted the hurt to stop.

And then the heroes came to end him.
