Mei is usually a shy and anxious crybaby with little to no mental capacity. She's easily stressed and often leads to her fleeing from wherever she is. Nonetheless, Mei tries her best to keep a smile plastered on her face to avoid worrying her friends.
However, upon looking at a full moon, another different personality takes over Mei's body and the paper talisman besides her ears shreds. The secondary personality inhabits and operates inside her headspace to support Mei only at desperate times. This persona is much more sophisticated and brave, but also hot-tempered. She's firm and strict when it comes to keeping Mei's physical body safe and healthy. With her transformation, Mei was considered as one of the most successfully produced hybrids. Her increased physical prowess, including heightened strength and dexterity, allows her to single-handedly defeat enemies of whatever caliber. Although due to the split personality, Mei had memory issues as their memories aren't shared when the other takes over their body. At first, Mei struggled with the amnesia and offended many with her lack of certain memories. But after they decided to share a diary, noting down crucial points and communicating with each other through it, all has been solved.
After escaping from the 'Institute of Hybrid', Mei felt lost with no place to return. She wandered from city to city but treated with disregard wherever she went. Just before she gave up hope and began losing conscious from hunger, Maemi appeared before her. Upon seeing a dishevelled and starved human with cat-ears who pleaded for help, Maemi took her home without thinking much and asked her to play co-op games together before even knowing her name. Even after hearing Mei's circumstances she didn't care and made a deal that if she play games with her, she'll let her stay and provide food as well.
As time passes, Mei begins to fall for Maemi but lacked confidence that she's able to bring the one she loves happiness. Hence, she sealed away her feelings... for now at least. Yet, she's easily jealous of others getting close to Maemi.
