Story

An ostentatious bard with no allegiances; Saphir wanders through kingdoms, performing his meticulously self-composed melodies. Occassionally mingling with other adventurering parties in search for the wealth to sustain his grooming habits.

The life left behind

Saphir was born to a human man and a woman with a touch of celestial blood in her veins. They lived in a farm house in a small town no-one really spoke about and they had led a simple life.

His mother was an elegant lady, who would always remind him that he was a beautiful boy; that he was her beautiful boy, as she combed through his mop of dark hair, streaked with the same silver locks she so proudly wore with her humbly tattered clothes. Even though it's been so long, Saphir still recalls her gentle, soothing voice and her soft, affectionate touches as she told him stories of her youthful days where she travelled as an adventurer before she settled down.

His father was a stern man, who would teach him how to fight and defend himself from the wolves with a pitchfork, teach him how to plow the fields under the hot sun, tell him that a boy should not be beautiful, nor should a boy cry when he scrapes his knees. Even though it's been so long, Saphir still recalls the disapproving glare and harsh chiding he got whenever he did something wrong.

He wasn't sure when he decided that he didn't want the simple life they had, nor does he remember when he realized he didn't want to be just be a normal boy; but he remembers hearing the heated arguement between his parents from behind his bedroom door one night, which ended shortly before his mother came to his room.

"My dear boy," She had said softly as she packed, her soft ruby eyes damp even under the dim light that Saphir left by the side of his bed because he feared sleeping alone in the dark. "It's time to leave, darling." Her voice was as soothing as it had always been, and even though Saphir could hear the tremble in her voice, he hadn't felt a hint of fear or hesitance when he took her hand.

A life of adventure

Life on the road was hard without a permanent roof over their heads. Despite having to constantly worry over the availability of their next meal, it was the happiest Saphir had been since he could remember. All they had was one another, but it was more than enough. His mother was nothing but supportive, and Saphir never had to hesitate.

For a number of years, they tagged along with a travelling troupe of performers who had been kind enough to offer them simple odd jobs. They were treated kindly by the troupe, and it was where Saphir was taught not only to brandish swords for performances, learn to play the instruments that soon became an integral part of his life, but also where he'd learn that he had a knack for a little bit of magic.

When age began to catch up with his mother, however, she decided to pursue a much more peaceful lifestyle. While he was slightly reluctant to leave her, Saphir was not quite ready to give up the life of adventure yet. With what small fortune they had saved up, they invested in a humble shophouse where she could sell simple crafts and wares. Occassionally Saphir would return to visit her, share the stories of his own adventures and the new songs he'd written before leaving her with the spoils of his adventures. She would remind him how happy and proud she was of her clever, beautiful and talented boy was as he kissed her goodbye for another journey.

Relationships

Adaiah [ lover ]

Even with his confience, Saphir wasn't sure how he'd manage to charm this particular dragon. Could've been the serenade under the moonlight, but one can never be sure. Their personalities meshed surprisingly well from the first meeting and Adaiah's company has been nothing but wonderful since. The bard looks forward to every new adventure he gets to share with Adaiah.

Perle [ mother ]

Saphir has always been close to his mother and the two are completely at ease sharing secrets with one another. Their favourite past time together is gossiping like middle aged ladies while baking cookies.

Astorias [ close friend ]

They first met in Venedalia when Saphir had been invited to perform at the castle. The two hit off well and continued to keep in touch as Saphir travelled. Every now and then the bard makes his way back to his friend and sings for him.
