Irena Teegarden (Ruby)

Ruby is a character in a world setting where everyone has a soul mate. To find your soul mate, you would need to get your birth mark (symbol) interpreted by one of the chosen prophets. Some believe in the prophecy while others are doubtful and refuse to be controlled by a thing people call fate.

Ruby comes from a poor family living in the slums of the kingdom. She hates the royalty because she thinks they are corrupt liars who keeps the power imbalance. Fueled by hatred and compassion for the weak, she organizes a rebellion against the royalty. She becomes acquainted with the prince, who secretly supports her cause from the inside.

After receiving a message to meet in a secluded place, she meets a masked rogue who provides her vital information about the nobility. She dislikes the rogue at first due to his cocky and playful attitude, but eventually they become close and banter a lot.

The prince invites Ruby as his date to a ball so the rebels can infiltrate the castle grounds as her entourage. One of the nobles asks to dance with her. She reluctantly, but politely, agrees. The noble teases her, but she puts her foot down and talks back at him out of reflex. Seeing the surprise on the noble's face, she realizes her mistake and quickly apologizes, but the noble laughs it off and actually looks quite amused.

Ruby eventually has an opportunity to see a prophet (her family was too poor to travel and seek one) and receives the prophecy, "It’s unexpected. Your soul mate is of noble blood, but you wouldn’t see it coming." She starts to believe that the prince is her soul mate as he is the only noble she actually knows and she did not think the prince would betray his own family. Eventually, she confesses her love to the prince out of confusion and desperation. The prince turns her down, but she is surprisingly relieved.

Her true soul mate is actually the masked rogue who is actually the noble she danced with at the ball.
