Nikolai is a noble vampire living in the same town as Alex and Alaric in England. He lives in a huge manor that he renovated himself back in the 1960's, filled with maids and butlers on a hill at the top of the town. He is a very manipulative man who knows how to get his way with anyone. His favorite trick is hypnosis. People say that if you accept a deal with him you’ll be in debt for all eternity. He owns a whole private hospital and medical complex on the outskirts of town named St Anya's hospital (actually named in reference to his mother) He is also a very active member of the vampiric community in his region, always eager to get more influence and get closer to the Prince. He strives to become the Harpy of the clan.
Design Notes
As you may have guessed his favorite color is red. He's a very monochromatic character and dresses in fancy suits most of the time, no commoner clothes. In his casual style he might be wearing silky night robes (red too of course)
He was born in Russia back when it was an empire (around 1730). From a wealthy family of aristocrats he never had to worry about a single thing, he had the best education, best meal at his table and the best house. He was in his twenties when the curse was brought up on him. Duing this fateful night he was attending a fancy ball when a somptuous lady caught his eye. His parents were pushing him to get married so it might as well be with a lady he liked. The Lady was incredibly mysterious and hypnotizing, she led him to a private room where they could "get to know each other". Unfortunately for him it was not what he had in mind. Once they were alone the Lady threw herself at him and bit down his neck, quickly draining him from his blood. It could have ended right here and now but for some unknown reason she decided to bring him to another life and make him a member of the kindred. She gave him her blood and the curse of the vampires ran through his veins, transforming him into this undead beast. When he came back to his sense he couldn't understand what he had just become. The first person to discover him was a butler, unfortunately for him, Nikolaï's new found bloodlust pushed him to bite into this man. However a last little thread of humanity kept him from killing him completely and Nikolaï fled outside into the cold streets. He roamed aimelessly for weeks, months, quickly leaving the streets and cities to go hide into the forests and toundras of his country, feeding off of animals with a bloodlust he didn't understand and was struggling to control. He quickly learned that the sun was not good for him and hopefully the long winter nights were here to shelter him in their darkness. And that somehow the freezing temperature were not affecting him as much as he wouldv'e expected, wearing only a fancy dress shirt and a vest. It's during his wandering on the toundra that he met a strange ermit living in a cavern nearby. This very old vampire would soon become his mentor and teach him all he knows about the vampire community and the ways to survive. He spent around a century travelling and living in a Russia where he learned a lot about his condition, before he travelled to America (around 1840) with many others to find new opportunities. He also found fellow kindred and vampiric societies to connect with. There he managed to slowly climb up the social ladder and earn a little fortune. He changed identities many times and eventually decided to leave the continent and settled back in Europe, most precisely in England around 1930, and he stayed there ever since.
- He pretends his hair is naturally red but he's actually a natural blonde
- He has spa days with Macy and she loves doing his manucure
- Thus he has red nail polish
- He dislikes pets but makes an exception for Acia's kitten Coal
- He knows how to play the harpsichord
- His obsession with the color red is actually a coping mechanism. When he woke up in a pool of his own blood after his transformation, he was terrified and kept having terrible panick attacks anytime he saw red after this incident. However, he reached a point where he wouldn't accept this, he was tired of being a victim, he didn't want to be weak anymore. And so he decided he'd wear red everyday to desensitize himself, but also as a reminder that he wouldn't be a victim anymore.
Alexander • Ex-friend
They used to be friends back in the days when Nikolaï arrived in England. However Alex saw him change as Nikolaï got more and more involved into the vampiric community and their differences made them split apart. Even though, Nikolaï stills wishes to gain back his friendship, by all means possible.
Acia • Partner (in crime) and Wife
A blind woman hiding from her past. As she is a rare person immune to his hypnotic powers and seeing as they share the same values, they became business partners and eventually friends... Though their relation quickly became more complicated than that. They has a long period of denial and ambiguity between them but their feelings kept growing and they are now in an established relationship, and even "married" in the more unofficial vampiric way.
Macy • Head Maid and Confidant
He met Macy in the 1950's and turned her into a ghoul, blood binding her to him when she accepted to work for him. She is now his head maid and close confidant. She has a mother-like attitude towards him as she truly sees him as the very lonely man that he is.
