Profile
Laucian Olivier Xiloscient Vance
Stubborn • Loyal • Committed
Comes from a place of wealth and expects people to treat him like the nobleman he is. His entire life he has been raised to believe that he is inherently superior to other people. A view that is becoming more and more challenged by the day.
Laucian has a strong sense of responsibility and duty and thinks it's the obligation of the upper class to care for the lower class since they are ‘incapable’ of doing so themselves. It doesn’t mean that he is in any shape generous or humble though, he is just extremely patronizing. He will stubbornly or in some cases obsessively chase a goal that he has set out for himself and he will make excuses for why this goal is the logical choice, even when it is clearly not. His extreme stubbornness is very much both a blessing and a curse, both to himself and the people around him.However... He is very protective, honorable and dependable. While he may complain about his company every step of the way, he will absolutely stick his neck out for his group. It doesn’t matter that he dislikes his squad members, he will protect them to the best of his ability.
Trivia

Being an aasimar and blessed by a goddess comes with some magical gifts. Due to his blessed nature, Laucian is stronger and taller than the average human from his homeworld. His flesh heals rapidly, skin barely shows signs of scarring and he is unaffected by any sort of disease. On top of it all, they have an average life span of 160 years, and age slowly after maturing. If this wasn’t enough to foster the arrogance of the “Elite race”, they are also the only ones who can use divine powers.
Laucian can use his powers to either heal injuries or smite people down with the radiance of the sun. His magic is rather grounded and tied to him, as if it was just as natural as the blood flowing in his veins. Whenever he experiences strong emotions, the radiant glow shines through his body. For most of his life, his powers were unfocused and subdued, mostly due to the fact that the goddess who blessed him is weak. As he got into contact with the power and blood of another goddess, the potential that had been seeping through a cracked door now had the doors flung open.
Most prominently, when he focuses his powers, he can grow 8 metaphysical spider legs from his back which help him climb vertically or upside-down on almost any surface. Additionally, when he focuses his powers to its limit, those legs can even cling into the air itself; Allowing him to “fly”. This takes a lot of energy though and he can only do it as a very short burst.
Due to his divine nature has a sort of “6:th sense”. Just like scent or sound he can sense certain presences, for example; An item he is focusing on, unnatural creatures such as undead, or even the thoughts of those around him. Using this sense he is able to affect the agency of people around him, changing their behaviour to become friendly towards him, or even force them into taking certain actions.

7) The Beginning of the End
The Sun moves and destroys two cities in its wake, marking the final stages of the war.
This is where the campaign is currently.
6) Here we go again
Nothing stays calm for long in the chaotic vortex that is Metrianda.
After a time. The heroes get sent off to complete a mission for the citizens of Deathwish. They learn that Nizan, being a lich, can easily come back to life, and they have to stop her from returning to this pocket dimension.
The party splits as they try to find clues of what to do… a mistake as Keith ends up with Nizan solo… and promptly dies as payment. She rips his arm off for good measure, but before she can do much else, she is chased towards the other heroes. Most of them, including Laucian, enter a rage upon seeing her with the arm and go ballistic on her.
The absolute fury that consumed Laucian reignited his radiance again, causing him now to glow gold once more. Though, he didn’t really have time to ponder it while mourning his friend. Thankfully, Keith got revived, and Laucian stayed with him during his recovery.
The war however, doesn’t wait for anyone. The Sun started to make moves, throwing their armies at a city called Edict and the heroes were called in. During this mission, The Sun takes the liberty to use it’s control over the moons in the sky to cause a perpetual full moon. Making lycans all over Metrianda go wild.
The paladin is of course upset about this, especially when Keith decides to leave the mission to tend to his boyfriend. Though the mission carried on. In the end, they managed to fight back the onslaught on Edict and win the battle. They even got a prisoner as a souvenir.
5) Recovery
For quite a while, everything seems rather calm. They are all still doing missions here and there and help along with the war efforts.
Kumo and Laucian have worked on their relationship quite a bit at this point, often meeting up in the training room to either practice battling or dance. The blonde quite likes their time together.
Nyx has gotten two babies, and Laucian helps sometimes with caring for the two. He finds himself getting a slight outlet for never having taken care of a baby, which he finds just as eternally frustrating as it is rewarding.
He still slowly works on his relationship with Keith and Benji… Though unfortunately their bad past causes stress and mishap during Keith’s chemical tests, causing the gunner to be sent to the hospital twice.
Kora also has to take his leave, but will stay in touch within dreams.
Overall it's a slow but steady recovery. Even his views on Kian Shigar improves during this time.
4) Descent into Madness
Before Metrianda, Laucian was not familiar with the concepts of lycanthropes. Though he could draw similarities between them and the demons of his homeworld. Infectious creatures that mindlessly kill others. So the more he got to learn about them, the more he came to hate them as a concept, and by extent, everyone who was one. Which, unfortunately, was both one of the heroes in the group, as well as Edward(Benji).
They got word that several people had gone to kill lycanthropes during a full moon, and frankly Laucian thought they were all better off without the beasts.
During this time, the stress of being in Metrianda was getting too much for him, and the looming threat of two beasts who could infect him made him constantly paranoid and angry. Coupled with the fact that Laucian, who has been doctrinated with homophobia, learned that his friend, Keith, is gay and also in a relationship with Benji.
Also on top of this, Laucian gains the ability to read people’s thoughts which makes him quite uneasy as he doesn’t know how to control it properly, and is afraid how other people will react to the fact.
During this time, Kora Shigar meets with Laucian in a dream once again, and Laucian convinces him to come to home base and hang out for a while. Kora agrees to stay for a short while, which slows down the blonde’s stress for a bit.
Life moves on, but Laucian’s relationship with Keith and Benji slowly gets worse and isn’t helped by the fact that Kora has a bias against Keith. Laucian finally informs Keith that he no longer wishes to associate with him and that they should only consider each other coworkers. This… just makes things worse.
Finally…
… One day he stumbles across Benji on a square, minding his own business. Laucian asks to speak to him and traps him in an old abandoned building where he magically removes Benji’s wererat curse. This causes the scientist to have a seizure, which Laucian didn’t expect, and he brought him to a hospital. Benji informed that he needed to be re-infected, which Laucian didn’t agree to… So instead he turned to Keith.
Laucian couldn’t let Keith venture down to the dangerous Underglass by himself and begrudgingly accompanied him. During the trip they were both stressed out of their minds, sick, and could barely sleep. Awful times all around. At least their mission was a success with some bumps in the road.
Eventually after their return, Laucian and Benji agreed that they needed to inform Keith on what had happened.
It was quite a tough conversation with a lot of hurt and frustration all around. Laucian, Keith, Benji, Kora and Kian were all there for this conversation. Laucian, while still hating the concept of lycanthropy, admitted that he had been in the wrong and broke down… feeling quite lost.
… Despite all of it. Keith still gave him another chance.
3) Back to Business
Shortly after their Underglass venture, Laucian was focusing on recovering from a surgery as well as getting his general health in order. During this time, he got closer to Finnigan Leagalow, as he would plant his ass in his office to do paperwork, as well as the two of them venturing down to an old shrine.
His good health and recovery lasted for a week, and then he learned that Théowara was steadily dying and they needed to help her. In their efforts, they stumbled across Nizan once more, and this time Benji(Edward) asked them to get rid of her. It was a tough battle which they just barely got through. Laucian had his soul ripped out and was branded by the lich.
The next couple of days were spent in solitude as the aasimar was overwhelmed with the experience. Thankfully, with help from Keith and a bit of Kumo, he managed to get out of the rut. Platypus images heals trauma wounds.
Laucian gets a good 5 days of rest…
… And then the heroes are tasked with trying to retrieve Captain Matriad from the clutches of the enemy, Pareidolia Di’or and The Sun. Laucian got tasked with retrieving some magical items, keys, and got back from his mission successfully. The actual retrieval team failed, and were brutalized in the process.
While Laucian were waiting, the tension was high in the room between him, Finnigan Leagalow and Kian Shigar. Upon hearing the other team failed, and left Kian’s daughter in enemy territory, the Mayess went into a rage. She found out that Laucian and Finnigan had been keeping secrets, and rewarded them by throwing explosive fire their way. Finnigan instantly died. Laucian took his body and ran.
Thankfully she didn’t pursue, and Laucian could revive the halfling shortly after.
This caused a strain between him and Kian. For he feared her and she felt awful for what she had done. And he promised to no longer keep secrets from her.
2) The Underglass
After the capital had fallen, the heroes got a mission to go to the old capitol in order to retrieve items for the Mayess, the leader of their Nation. They had to venture through the old world below, referred to as the ‘Underglass’, which is known to be dangerous.
During the first day of his travels he met with a Goddess, Lilith, who hadn’t seen a living person in milenia and accidentally killed him with her powers. She revived him, and during his revival, a power he didn’t know he had was awoken in him. Laucian, blessed by the spider goddess back from home ‘Life’, changed; Gaining the power to summon spider legs from his back… all thanks to Lilith’s goddess power resonating with Life’s. Like opening a Pandora's box.
But because of his initial death, Lilith had to use whatever power she had to get him back… Thus his magic and energy resembled Liliths, being black and red. Laucian was unaware of the change for a while, only feeling the coldness of death creeping up on him now and then.
In their underglass travels, heroes were being kidnapped by this cult who was running a city named Deathwish. Heroes were being turned into undead soldiers, and the party had their own people taken. As they were fighting one cultist leader, Laucian discovered the transformation who was brought onto him by Lilith’s influence… and it was met with quite a bit of turbulence in the party as one hero, Zane, reacted by casting fire upon him. His relations with the others were quite rocky for a while shortly after this encounter. Some fell apart (like with Zane), while others grew a lot closer (like with Kumo, Theo and Keith).
After a battle with the cult leader, Revelation the gun-slinging-dragon, as well as a terrifying encounter with Yevie Purpumtem, Laucian had to be hospitalized for internal injuries. Keith, Kumo and Benji(Edward) were vital in saving his life, but it came with a cost of giving ruling power to a lich, Nizan, in Deathwish. While unconscious, Kora met with Laucian in his dreams… a feat Kora had pulled off a few times before. Where Laucian could see his long lost daughter for the first time. Laucian was only aware of Keith and Kora’s involvement for a long time, thus he spent a lot of time getting closer to Keith.
Seeing so many people pull through to save him humbled the elite blonde quite a bit, and he realised he no longer can act rash for it will affect others. Growth.
The group had been informed of allies of Yevie habiting the old capitol, and sure enough they were there. Laucian kept his distance because of bad blood between himself and Ryn. Instead he himself, Théowara and Keith decided to get trauma by entering a waterpark which had been taken over by guard and service robots… Now feeding fresh corpses to a giant titanic robot in the deepest parts of the water. They said “No, thank you” and ran.
In the capitol, they found a magical machine that let them send a single message back home and Laucian used it, letting the people at home know he was “dead”. No longer did he believe that coming home was possible.
1) The Rocky Start
In his homeworld he was out on a late patrol, looking for traces of demonic activity when suddenly an envelope with his name came into existence before him. Someone was heeding his call and he could choose to accept or deny… He chose to accept… not really knowing what he accepted.
Laucian was summoned in the middle of a battle between a bunch of humanoids and three dragons. He was not exactly pleased with his summoning, being rather overwhelmed with it all, and quickly started trying to find ways to get back home.
Except there isn’t any way to get back home from Metrianda.
Metrianda, being a pocket dimension, is quite the melting pot of races and cultures and thus it came as quite a culture shock to the blonde. He kept his distance from people and defended himself by acting hostile. Seeing there is no place for him to go, he accepted his “task” as a “hero” while looking for alternatives or ways to get out of this pocket dimension and go back home.
A hero's duty is not an easy one… And soon enough he was having to fight golden mirror copies of himself and the other heroes, a vampire, Ryn, who was siphoning the energy from the city, as well as getting involved in a 400 year war that was started by Pareidolia Di’or.
As the days went by and the world he now found himself in seemed all the more fantastical, he started becoming more defensive and even lash out aggressively or in violence. One brawl, he accepted just to get an outlet for his emotions, spiraled and ended up with his opponent dead. Laucian was quickly losing control of himself, and his aggression was often met with more aggression.
During this time he got the closest with the hero, Zane, for being a human. Though he also had an okay time spending time with the drider, Kumo.
Intro
The society he has grown up in cares for human advancement more than anything else. Their technology is advanced and the average human's biology is top notch. They have gained very high standards for genetics due to the fact that they have been selectively breeding for hundreds of years. The society of the world Platun believes in eugenics.
People in this society have a chronic arrogance and refuse to perform certain jobs or tasks. Therefore they created slaves, known as “pets”; Synthetically created humans with DNA spliced with animals to create decorative servants for the humans to control and gawk at. Platun has some magic influence, but it has become very weak. And the gods of this world are more like spirits or archfey.
On the very top of this ladder is the Elite. They’re a category of humans who are blessed with divine blood from one of the gods (aasimar). They are easily identified by having pale eyes, as well as being able to display their divine powers through making their eyes or skin glow. Different mega cities were had their own flavor of Elite, but Laucian was born in the golden city of Aureapolis. There the Elite are blessed by the Goddess simply named “Life” whose avatar is a giant glowing spider. Her body is symbolised as the sun itself, and her spread out legs are the sun rays.
0+ Childhood
On their third attempt, the Vancy family gave birth to Laucian on the first day of the new year as planned. He was to grow up being an only child and the Vance family were already planning out his life in detail. It was important to the family that he would grow up to take over the family business. A military technology and weapons manufacturing business. The one who had the biggest demands on Laucian’s upbringing was his grandfather, Olivier Vance.
At 3 years old, he was given his own pet. His family raised a species of pets named archangels, like one would have a dog kennel. Due to his species, Laucian named his pet “Archie”... Though his parents gave it the official name Archanion seeing they didn’t like Laucian’s choice of name.
Due to how strict Elites in general are with their children's upbringing and when and how they are allowed to interact, Laucian spent most of his free time playing with Archie and the other archangels. While the pets were definitely servants of sorts, they had a quite good relationship with him. The relationship the pets had with the Vance family was like servants in a castle, with the Vance’s being the royal family. And little bright and blue eyed Laucian was the young prince who didn’t mind playing with anyone. In fact, he preferred to spend time with the pets since they weren’t strict with him.
During this time, he was also introduced to and betrothed to Baelitae. A girl from another elite family only a year older than him. She didn’t seem to mind him much as they were young kids, but also didn’t have much interest in him either.
When he was 8, his parents took in an infant archangel that they had been quite excited about. It was not completely unusual for the parents to help care for the youngest archangel pets, but they seemed to spend a lot of time with this one. His name became Florentine.
10+ Teenage Years
Times got rougher in his teenage years. Hormones, schooling, pressure, it all escalated and his free time diminished quite a bit.
When he was about 14, he would spend all of his free time with Archie. They would often go out into the land the Vance owned and be in the forest, or climb the mountain, or even swim into a small secret cove where the lake and the mountain met. Away from the eyes of others, they could be more free to be themselves and were quite intimate.
It wouldn’t take too long before Olivier the senior caught on, and went to put a stop to their friendship before risking that it would turn into something more. Archie was sent away. Never to be seen again. Laucian was distraught… but barely had time to process his emotions before he was taken to a facility where he had witnessed his cousin go through conversion therapy. The mere threat of it was enough to make Laucian fear attraction to men, and this was encouraged further by Olivier over the years.
Much to Laucian’s contempt, Florentine continued to stay within the Vance mansion rather than being taken to the kennels when he was old enough. His parents were a lot softer and sweeter with Florentine, letting him get away with things Laucian would never, and letting him use casual language like “Ma & Pa” to refer to them. This caused Laucian to grow extremely jealous of him. His parents would dismiss any accusation of unequal treatment, simply stating that Florentine is a pet and cannot be upheld to the same standards as Laucian. Thus this is “fine” and Laucian should “stop being so childish”.
With the loss of his best friend and his pseudo-brother getting better treatment, as well as teenage hormones acting up, caused Laucian to become rather unpredictable and emotional. His father would act with neglect and passive aggressiveness, while his mother would cause him physical harm to stop the unwanted behaviour. At one point, Laucian snapped and acted out violently in turn, harming his mother as well as property. His mother Quelenna never acted out physically on him again for the fear of getting injured. This caused Laucian to redirect his emotions and frustrations to anger and violence as a self defence mechanism.
Baelitae became more difficult to interact with, as it was dawning on both of them that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. She absolutely hated the thought and would give any excuse not to see him, as she would “see him plenty when they’re married later”.
Despite what Olivier the senior had done to Laucian in the past, and the act he had basically dictated the teenager's entire life, the two became rather close. Olivier would spend a lot more time with Laucian than his father would, mostly because Olivier saw his son as a willing failure and saw his grandson as a new and more moldable hope. Laucian would never relax around his grandfather, but he could feel their time together be fulfilling.
At 19 years of age, Laucian learned that Olivier Vance the senior died due to mysterious circumstances. It became world wide news and there was a lot of tension in the family now that Olivier Vance the junior would have to take over.
20+ Early Adulthood
The first half of his twenties were rather smooth. He managed to get into an elite friend circle, and thus didn’t only have pets to interact with. His father was working most of the time. His grandfather wasn’t there to dictate his every breath. He was mostly left to his own devices and he was thriving.
At 23 he couldn’t stand Florentine anymore and started acting out his jealousy on him. He would most of all bruise the angel's wings for it was almost impossible to see the damage through the feathers. A year later, Florentine fled. This put the biggest dent between Laucian and his parents.
Laucian’s life plans had dictated that he was going to get married at 25, and his father had made sure that this meant that he would become the new owner of the company as well. On the day of the new year, Laucian’s life changed. He was now a married man who had to take over a huge company with very little training or idea of what that actually meant. Long days and nights were spent at work, trying to familiarize himself with everything that had to be done. Most that he knew, he had learned from his grandfather as his father had been rather apathetic and neglectful. Quickly, this man started to become a workaholic.
As a married man and the new leader of the house of Vance, he is also expected to pass on their legacy to a new generation. Laucian had been quite busy running the company, and Baelitae’s contempt for her situation didn’t draw them any closer. They were pressured into making children both from the Vance’s and her family. They were both rather reluctant, and in the end it ended up as a bad experience for both. It further destroyed Laucian inside as Baelitae would guilt trip him into believing that he had forced the encounter on her.
Despite it all, they managed to get pregnant and Laucian was actually rather positive about the prospect of having a child. The longer he sat with the idea, the more he saw the physical changes in his wife and the reality of becoming a father became more concrete, the more excited he became.
The joy wouldn’t last for long. Baelitae’s mental health had taken a turn for the worse and she had become all the more distant and passive agressive. Even taken to drinking alcohol which caused an immense amount of anger in Laucian.
One faithful evening she decided she wanted to leave, and she did. She left and returned to her own family, and shortly filed for a divorce. To Laucian this came out of the blue and he pleaded to her to come back, or at the very least give him some custody of his newborn child. She wouldn’t have any of it. Using Laucian’s aggression as a lever, she managed to divorse and get full custody fine.
Baelitae disappeared out of his life without trace, and he wouldn’t even know the name of his child.
The Vance family saw this as an embarrassing loss, and a failure on Laucian’s part; Both as a Vance and as a man. They tried to dismiss it with a handwave, saying there’s more women out there… But Laucian was becoming consumed with grief. As an attempt to cope, Laucian gave his child a birthday, the fifth day of the seventh month. During this day he would take a day off of work, celebrating his child's birthday and talk about the things they would’ve done together up to this point. This became a yearly tradition.
When he married and inherited the company, he also inherited the mansion and the pets. One of the pets was Ben, who had been the family’s butler since before Laucian was born. The Vance family had definitely rubbed off their worldview and arrogance on Ben. Seeing that most of the time it was only Ben and Laucian in the mansion, Ben had to see Laucian be miserable and emotional after the divorce. Unfortunately he thought it to be a good idea to take the opportunity to tell Laucian to “man up”. Laucian snapped, more violently than he had ever done before, and killed Ben with his bare hands.
The mansion fell silent.
30+ Thirties
A rather long part of his life, with very little information to talk about.
In his 30s he had a lot of energy and was very much focused on his job. Without a family of his own, and wanting to distance himself from the house of Vance, all of his time became work, work, work. Sometimes not even returning home for days on end. Even friendships had been severed and he only kept superficial friends that he could see during his work hours.
But, now that Ben was dead, he needed someone else to care for the mansion back home. Thus he goes to purchase a new pet, a pretty maid that had been trained for 10 years to serve an elite family, Mei-Dee. She was a bit reserved at first as she got acclimated to her new home, and Laucian’s bitterness was tough in the beginning, but soon enough she did very well with her duties.
Unlike the archangels, she remained professional with him which was a very welcome change. Laucian felt like he could relax and leave her to her own devices. Soon enough he gave her a golden collar; A subscription service and symbol that she is allowed almost anywhere in Aureapolis without the need for a master.
Laucian tried to get back into dating in his later 30s, but it rarely went anywhere. There was one woman in particular though he got really close with and was very serious about dating. Though, one day he learns that she had been lying about being single, and that she was very much cheating on her husband. Laucian was heartbroken and disgusted, and ended contact on the spot.
40+ Midlife crisis
Eventually, the weight of his workload, his family's demands and most of all his loneliness all came crashing down on him at once. Overworked and underappreciated. For a very long time he would go to work absolutely fatigued, and come home with negative energy. After finally giving into his family once more, he got to see a doctor who diagnosed him with burnout.
For a little while, the Vance house gave him space, but not nearly as much as he needed. They came to him constantly with questions on how to work the company and he ended up basically working from home. At some point he completely cut all communication and he entered a stage where he could barely get out of bed at all.
This went on for quite some time, and after months of “patience” from his family, they started asking when he was going to get back to work, and belittling him for “feeling sorry for himself”.
As he felt all the more useless and unwanted by the day, he started to resort to alcoholism to numb his emotions. Hygiene and health was not on the agenda at all, making him rough, unwashed and malnourished.
Mei-Dee had had enough. She knew Laucian was trapped in a downward spiral, and everything he neglected to do only made sure he was kept in there. Slowly but surely, she made small gestures to make him feel better, such as; Cleaning and combing his hair, grooming his face, making sure he got dressed, helped him to at least one warm and healthy meal a day, and most importantly sat down and spent time with him. Part of him wanted to dismiss it all as her being his pet and doing her job, but during this time it meant the world to him.
It took a long time, but with Mei-Dee’s help and with the distance from his family, he managed to once again stand on his own.
Though, as soon as he returned to work he could feel the stinging and claustrophobic grasp of the burnout again. He couldn’t go back there.
In the past, he had expressed a desire to join the Crimson Order, a military unit whose sole purpose was to fight demonic entities. At least there he could do some actual good for the people of this world. Mei-Dee knew it was a dangerous occupation, but she convinced him to join the order. It seemed better if Laucian died fighting for something he believed in, rather than waste away being a puppet of his family.
Now, Laucian had a lot of theoretical knowledge about military and service, but no actual hands-on experience. It was also rather difficult for him to get acclimated, not only because he was in his 40s, but because he was THE Laucian Vance. The order first thought it was some odd joke or weird threat… But Laucian carried on his duties, no matter how much people stared, glared, whispered or insulted.
50+ A new life
Being stubborn and dedicated were two golden traits that allowed Laucian to quickly improve with his tasks. His workaholic nature was spent learning and perfecting his use with weapons, and his dedication to being in peak condition for combat made him work hard on building strength and stamina. The latter also came rather easy for him, being one of the Elite.
He got promoted to staff sergeant, and didn’t exactly want a much higher position than that. Whenever he wasn’t out on the field, his job was to train new recruits. A place that suited him fine. He knew he was going to die on the field, and he was content with it. There also wasn’t really any care what his family thought about his new occupation.
Laucian carried out his duties rather effectively for years… Only interrupted one late evening when he was patrolling an old abandoned mall.
An envelope with his name on it fell at his feet.
Benjiro Liebowitz
[ A threat ]
The fact that Benjiro is a warerat is in the forefront of Laucian’s mind all the time. At first he was simply wary, but the man's “constant” presence made Laucian feel all the more confronted and cornered. Eventually, he couldn’t take it anymore and forced the curse out of the scientist. Which caused a seizure that needed to be treated at a hospital immediately.
Benjiro has since been reinfected with lycanthropy, much to Laucian’s dismay. Though now he simply shies away from Benji whenever he is around. It’s a painful reminder of when he lost his mind.
A shame too, because Benji’s blunt and snide personality is something Laucian could appreciate.
Finnigan Leagalow
[ Boss ]
Oh goodness, Laucian did not like Finnigan at the start. It felt degrading having to listen to such a small, old, frail “pet”. One that easily would talk back to him too as Finnigan didn’t appreciate Laucian’s narrow minded and mean spirited nature.
Over time, Finnigan has proven himself to Laucian as a very capable leader. Some flaws, sure, but capable and very human. Their relationship with one another is strictly professional but they seem to “get” each other quite easily. Because of the way Finnigan told Laucian off for bad behaviour in the past, the blonde now trusts the halfling to be real with him. Laucian also feels like Finnigan trusts his capabilities, which in of itself is humbling and moving.
Finnigan brings out the best in Laucian. And the best part is that they can still share a laugh and an adventure together despite their difference in rank. Laucian is slowly but surely becoming blindly loyal to the old mayor.
Gaiya Shigar
[ A learning experience ]
If it had been up to Laucian, he would most likely have killed Gaiya when he first met her. Not only was she supposedly from the enemy side, but she was also its captain, undead, and during some bickering back and forth Laucian took her frustrated rants as literal threats. For the longest time he wouldn’t even look in her direction.
Then, Laucian was experiencing powers of that of a sorcerer and didn’t know how to go about them. Kora suggested that he would turn to Gaiya, but apologize to her first. Laucian begrudgingly agreed, and so started their acquaintance with Gaiya as his magic teacher.
Laucian was rather awkward and embarrassed to perform the yoga which she uses to focus her powers, but after noticing it working he is very confident in it. Lately, he genuinely likes her and trusts her.
Keith McCaine
[ Closest Friend ]
They hit off early pretty good, especially thanks to Keith saving Laucian’s life. They got rather close pretty quick and Laucian found himself being able to relax around the man in a way he couldn’t with other humans. Over time though, it got quite a bit more shaky as the homophobic blonde not only learned that his friend was gay, but also that his boyfriend, Benjiro, was a monster. After an attempt to break contact with both of them, he almost killed Benji in a fit of paranoid insanity.
Keith was understandably upset about this, but still warily decided to give Laucian another chance. Laucian doesn’t feel like he deserves one, but is trying his best to make amends for his mistakes.
Today Laucian is rather overprotective of Keith, especially after when the gunner was killed by the lich Nizan. Though he noticed that his overbearing nature had a negative effect on them both and started taking a step back. He cares deeply for Keith, though he feels like he has little place in the gunner's life.
Kian Shigar
[ Boss 2 ]
Laucian didn’t like Kian for many reasons when he came to metrianda, but her race was the dot above the “i”. He couldn’t take her or anything she said seriously, and sometimes she would state outlandish things that further made him distrust her leadership. It also didn’t help that she has somewhat of a temper which caused him to be even more wary of her.
After a failed mission, Kian cast a spell at Laucian and Finnigan in a fit of confused rage, instantly killing Finnigan. Even though Laucian successfully revived the mayor later, the relationship with the Mayess has been shaky.
Though, time heals wounds slowly, and though he doesn’t forget what happened he does feel like he understands her more and more by the day. The two are similar in many ways, and sometimes he looks at her to determine how other people look at him. Lately he has been very approving of her decisions and is warming up to her presence and leadership.
Kora Shigar
[ Almost too good to be true ]
Kora tore his ways through Laucian’s thick brick wall as if he was kicking down a thin sheet of plaster. Laucian was understandably wary at first, as at first glance the tiefling seemed to know just about everything about Laucian… Which meant that Kora would know of the darkest and well kept secrets the blonde kept as well. But over time, wariness became confusion, and became ease. Kora supposedly knew whatever was important to know about him, yet didn’t seem to show any aggression at all. Just as friendly as always.
Through the use of dreams, Kora showed Laucian his home, mansion and Mei-Dee, and also the daughter he’s been longing to see his entire life. It was also at this moment Laucian discovered that he had grandchildren as well. Laucian feel as if he can never repay that kindness to Kora and owes him so much.
Kora visited them all briefly, but had duties to attend to elsewhere. He still keeps contact with Laucian through dreams whenever he can. Laucian feels appreciated and humbled that Kora seeks him out specifically to spend time and talk about issues.
Kumo
[ Wishes they were closer ]
At first, Laucian just saw Kumo as yet another pet. Yet another creature who should know its place and listen to orders. He also disliked the driders chaotic nature and attitude. Though he softened up towards the drider when Kumo was the only one who would talk to him for an extended time. The socially awkward nature eventually became more and more endearing to Laucian.
Time and time again, Kumo has shown himself to be dependable when it really counts, which Laucian values greatly. They seem to have an odd and distant relationship which can become rather wholesome and intimate at times.
The driders awkward and aloof nature is a bit difficult for Laucian to read, however. And while Laucian considers Kumo a very close friend, he doesn’t exactly know what the drider thinks of him in turn. He wishes he could break this barrier that he senses between them, but he wouldn’t know how to go about it. Until then, they will train and dance their mornings away.
Lilithine Hubrisa Sadisis Hargrave
[ Bug Disco ]
Seeing their first meeting pretty much started with Lilith killing off Laucian, it was rather shaky. She wanted to come along with him, and he was too fearful to say no. And on top of that, he now felt a strange responsibility for her. It was his responsibility to make sure she wouldn’t hurt anyone, but he also didn’t want an actual goddess to fall either.
He understands that gods can be a bit fickle and emotionally driven, which didn’t really put him off from her strange behaviours. Oftentimes he found her rather endearing but he didn’t exactly know how to approach her either. There were just a lot of emotions, where guilt, fear and confusion mixed.
She had thoughts to leave the group for its safety, but Laucian offered her to stay with him. So she did. For a while they were roommates, but largely stayed out of each others lives.
Laucian, thanks to dealing with his trauma regarding Kian, has finally moved past the point of fear. Lilith has moved away and he is a little sad to see her go, but he is cheering her on and knows she will do great work with the military.
Lyzzara Nizan
[ Lich Bitch ]
Despite the bad things Laucian had heard about Nizan, he was very hesitant to attack her, knowing she performed the surgery that ultimately saved his life. Though he learned the hard way that she was just as eager to take it, when she ripped his soul out straight from his chest.
When they went to encounter her a second time, he was rather wary and hated the idea that the group would spread thin in such a dangerous area. Well, shit happened anyway, and Keith was the one that had to suffer that time.
Laucian no longer fears her. Just hearing her name fills him with untamed rage and he wish to kill her as many times as it takes.
Nyx Matriad
[ Star ]
Nyx was one of the first to truly give Laucian the benefit of doubt when many (including himself) believed he would join The Sun. She thought that by showing him what the Sun was like, it would change his mind, and that in either case she wouldn’t judge him for his decision. None should be forced to take a side in this war. Nyx did convince him that day to not join the enemy, and he is grateful for that.
He respects that she is open without being naive and that she cares a lot for keeping the peace between the Moon and the Mayess. A bit odd at times but he finds her to be reliable.
Over the months he has grown a lot closer to her, even helping her with taking care of her infant twins. Something that have felt like a little oasis, like dipping his toes into a normalcy other people get to experience. They have definitely butt head a few times, but it’s never been anything major. It’s an odd relationship that more often than not feels prodessional, but they are a lot closer than that.
Pareidolia Di'or
[ Enemy ]
When he first heard about Pareidolia and the way she ran the Sun and her worldview, as well as her aesthetics, Laucian could only think about home. It seemed to be everything he recognized and the best way to rule. Many people back on his own home planet hated him for his name and for being on the “other side”, and thus he wanted to give Di’or the benefit of doubt, especially when Kian Shigar had more or less forced him into a side of the war.
He has since then learned that while he still definitely believes in Pareidolia's worldview in theory, she is a horrible leader and executes that worldview in ways he even finds despicable. He doesn’t believe that she has her own citizens' best interest in mind. He doesn’t even know what she really is trying to do at this point.
Worst of all, so much about her is fake, so who could truly know her intentions? Sometimes he still exercises the thought of being on the other side, but ultimately he knows that she needs to be defeated. Not only for Metrianda’s sake, but for Platun as well.
Robasarai
[ Home ]
Robasarai is rather mysterious to him, but he finds her absolutely fascinating and wants to know more about her. Sure, the first time they met eye to eye it was absolutely terrifying, but that just seems to be part of the course of meeting a god for Laucian.
Robasa is his home, and she is to be protected.
Sofie Wyonna
[ Forced Tolerance ]
Funnily enough, Laucian didn’t hate her from first impression. He thought she was rather spunky and could be fun to have on the team.
… Then he learned what lycanthropy is and how it affects people… And that she doesn’t want to be cured from it.
Laucian is constantly having his guard up whenever she is around, afraid that she is going to turn into a beast or infect someone else or both. The stress, as well as everyone else's seeming “nonchalance” towards the lycan issue has made him resent her. This didn’t get any better when she did (unwantingly) transform and infected Théowara…
He doesn’t always hate what she does, in fact sometimes he thinks she can be fun. But he doesn’t allow himself to relax or admit it… Hurts less that way when they have to act against her again.
Théowara die Verdreht
[ Friend ]
Théowara has gone through a lot, and suffers from magic dementia. Laucian, over everything else, pities her for the things she’s gone through at her age. At the same time, he does respect her resilience to keep going and keep fighting and he would never admit out loud that he feels sorry for her. For he wouldn’t want anyone to pity him either. It’s hard for him to see her as strong enough to care for herself, especially with how weak he has seen her in the past, and therefore he is quite protective of her.
When they click they click really nicely with one another and seem to be on each others level. At times they can even be rather deep and intimate with one another. Though, at other times, Théowara’s actions directly conflict with Laucian’s interest in ways that make him feel like his wants and needs don’t matter to her.
He doesn’t know where he has her, and has come to the conclusion that she is not interested in being a friend to him in the same way she is to others. Which he think is ultimately fair, not everyone has to be best friends with everyone, but still hurts as it feels to him that his care for her isn’t reciprocated.
Zane Lune
[ Selfish Coward ]
Started off well. Laucian latched onto Zane for being the only human to interact with and felt desperate for a connection with someone. But their relationship slowly deteriorated over time, got increasingly hostile and trust faltered. The biggest downfall was when, during an enemy encounter, Laucian transformed for the first time into his spider-like shape. Zane threw a fireball at Laucian and the enemy henchmen. They have been nothing but hostile towards one another since.
