Sonya was always destined for greatness. She was born into a devout family whose high expectations she strove to fulfil with open passion. As soon as her opportunity arose, she followed in her father's footsteps to become a Paladin of Athena. She joined the Order of the Or de Lys and studiously climbed her way through the ranks until she became a trusted member.

Tragedy struck not long after her initiation when the head of her order, Verbrand the Gold, was murdered by his brother Vrandal Silverhand. Alongside the egregious break of oath, Vrandal had won several other paladins to his cause and decimated the ranks of the Or de Lys in his uprising. Sonya swore to seek justice for Verbrand's assassin.
