Seto Rougenite

Personality:

Seto is very reserved and prefers not to let others get too close, and refuses to allow himself to be seen in vulnerable positions. To those closer to him he is a generally kind and giving person with a very passive personality. He prefers to let his actions speak moreso than words, and can be slow to speak, even casually. Seto has a chronic illness which is supposed to be terminal that he has been working with a very experience doctor to stave off. While his quality of life is generally stable at this point his slowness to act and speak is in part due to the illness affecting his neurological and motor state. He can come off as aloof, cold, or distant because of his passiveness, but his friends know him as a fiercely loyal advocate and a bit of a prankster. Unlike his best friend, Koro, Seto is much more assertive when it comes to conflict and is willing to fight for what he believes in. His history has sharpened him into a very skilled and powerful fighter. Where Koro may be stronger in pure talent , Seto has made up for this difference in precision and diligent training. He know his strength and tends to be discerning in where he lends it because he would prefer others solve their own conflicts. He will butt heads with even loved ones if there is a difference in core values.

Seto's chronic illness effects his brain and memories, so despite his sharp wit and biting intellect his sanity is often called into question. He struggles to sleep, eat and otherwise care for himself and is reckless with treating himself to avoid allowing others to see him vulnerable.

Backstory:

Seto was born on an underdeveloped desert planet that his parents fled to when they retracted their allegance to the Haiden queen. His parents lived undercover, pretending to be humans, his father a farmer and his mother a theif when being a housewife would leave them wanting for resources. Eventually his mother was caught and in a lapse of her usual caution was found out as being a haiden. The planet, having a long standing feud with Saturn Haidens, lumped her (a Mars Haiden, unaffiliated with her homeworld at that) in with them and sentenced the family to death. Seto's brother escaped without a thought to his siblings, and his sister was safely away on her own work. Seto managed to escape with his baby brother in the madness that ensued, but not without a traumatic injury to his eyes that would blind him for the rest of his life. A child himself he nearly died trying to provide for himself and his brother without his eyesight in the harsh desert wilderness, until eventually when the two were at deaths door were found by an old haiden traveller, Brahm. An ancient doctor, Brahm was able to restore the boys to health and became a brutal tutor in teaching the boy to stay alive and care for his loved ones. Being Haiden himself, Brahm was able to specifically help Seto hone his advanced senses until his lost sight was merely an inconvenice.

When Brahm eventually was called back to the Haiden homeworld, he arranged for the now very skilled and hardened boy to be sent to earth where he could more easily contact and observe him. Seto made fast friends with a group of differently hardened street teens in the dilapidated city he called home. Found by an orphanage in this town he finally had some assistance in caring for his brother and went to taking odd jobs to save for their future and provide for the two of them. From taking military work for the college education and other benefits it provided to doing mechanic work under the table, his ambition slowly and eventually resulted in him running a tech startup that became wildly successful.

As an adult, he has amassed a wealth that allows him to focus on researching into his illness, and his generosity and goodwill served him in having a breadth of friends willing to help him when his younger brother lost most of the companies profits to a gambling addiction. Despite being significantly deteriorated by his illness, he otherwise lives a stable life where he provides medical and mechanical help to others and engages in paying his wealth forward through philanthropy. Being very visible and "out" about being a haiden, called a "demon" by humans he is generally maligned by a misinformed public, despite his generous donations and numerous quality of life inventions.

Illness:

Phoenix Haidens have a very unique subset of blood type within haidens, which can be incompatible when mixing with other species (specifically, Seto's Fox haiden mother). Phoenix blood can change in consistency to become a healing salve to any disease or wound in the body, but a person w/ this illness of the blood from cross-breeding is affected with a toxic and very thin blood that cannot be used for even normal healing and normal oxidizing. Most children of cross-bred phoenix parents inherit this disease and usually die from it, leading to the specific subspecies of haidens facing extinction, but because Brahm is old enough to have medical experience from when phoenix haidens were more abundant, and because he was lucky enough to find Seto at such a young age, was able to introduce medicaitons that artifically helped oxidize the body.
