Personality

Vyara is a kind and cheerful young woman. She is often smiling and cheering people up, having said that amidst this war that only hurts people, this is the least she could do to help. She is caring to those she’s close to (and sometimes even those she doesn’t personally know, but knows she can trust, as demonstrated by her attitude towards the news of the supposed death of Allen Walker prior to her joining Marian Unit).

As someone who’s lead a relatively happy and carefree life up until only a year or so before joining the order, she’s extremely empathetic to all the hardships the other Exorcists have been through, having even been noted to act more emotional about her partner Tieyan Lyaning’s past than Tieyan herself does. Due to her childhood however, she also has a much more difficult time dealing with losses than a lot of other members of the Black Order, and especially Exorsists, a majority of whom have all lost many precious friends and family members. Vyara often also blames herself for the loss of people close to her, as noted both after the death of her father and her former partner Daisya Barry. In both cases, their death could have been prevented and Vyara strongly believes that she was the one who could have done so, even if in Daisya’s case this might have cost her her life.

She isn’t one to get angered easily and even amidst a battle it takes a lot for her to snap. In fact, it’s much more common for her to get upset as someone getting hurt to protect her, than at the actual enemy – she has never fought solely for the sake of defeated evil. Instead, he reason for joining the Order and being an Exorcist is instead to protect others from losing those important to them like she had with her father.

Upon the death of Daisya and the subsequent realizartion that it was the Noah Tyki Mikk that had killed him, Vyara at first began by blaming herself. As time passed and she joined Marian Unit en route to Edo however, she thought everything over and came to terms with it. Not long after, came her first encounter with Tyki since Barcelona. That was the first time she really lost her cool around her enemy, going as far as to recklessly begin a fight again him, even though she was well-aware she couldn’t hope to beat him in a fight. Even now (especially after she narrowly missed her chance to face off against him yet again in Noah’s Ark), while she is still rather cool-headed in battle, she loses some of her rationality when it comes to him and is ready to put herself at risk.

At times she has proven to be somewhat careless in her day-to-day life, between taking a detour through her hometown (despite not being supposed to interact with her family during her time at the Order), offering Tieyan alcohol despite being aware of her low tolerance for it, and even having instances where she would freeze up in the middle of battle and only cause more trouble for her comrades.

History

Vyara was born in a small town in Bulgaria's Rose Valley, in the family of two rosarians. Naturally, she took up the craft from them and from as early as 12 years old she would help with the picking of roses and the production of the region's famous rose oil. She was happy and content with her life and all the joy it brought her.

The town they lived in was quite small and for Vyara's 16th birthday her father decided that they needed to find a present that was a bit more grand and exciting. He set out on a two-day long trip to and fro a bigger town nearby, promising to be back in no time. However, the two days soon turned into a week, the week into a month, and so on, yet Vyara's father never returned. Close friends of his took many trips in search of him or his body, yet he was never found. Vyara and her mother had to accept the loss and try to move on.

A few months later, in late May, Vyara made up her mind to go through her father's old belongings. It hadn't been a good year for their rose production, and as such they needed the money, having decided to sell that which didn't hold any sentimental value. While digging through his clothes, she found a small wooden box with the words "Happy Birthday" beautifully carved in it. Opening it, inside she found a beautiul bracelet with a single cross-shaped silver charm with a small mountain crystal embedded in the middle and a hand-written note from her dad, wishing her a wonderful 16th birthday. Upon realizing he must have stored this part of her present away before he left, Vyara broke down in tears. She decided to wear the bracelet as something to remind her of her father and the wonderful person he had been.

Only a few days later, the town's people began disappearing one by one. Moreover, in the first week of June, the town was held its annual Rose Festival. Vyara and her mother took turns looking over a small booth, where they sold the different rose products they'd produced throughout the year to tourists and travellers. As Vyara took over the booth, she noticed a peculiar stranger, clad in a black robe with gold lining. He seemed out of place.

Soon he wandered to her booth and curiously looked everything over. Just as he picked up a jar of rose jam and some rose water (claiming he wanted to bring back some souvenirs for his "children"), screams sounded from somewhere nearby. While everyone else rushed to their source in panic, Vyara watched as the stranger remained calm, carefully placed the products down, and pulled out two big crosses. From somewhere nearby a handful of what she could only assume to be monsters floated up into the sky, and the peculiar traveller destriyed them with ease.

She couldn't even ask a single question, before one of the panicking people beside her turned into much the same monster and hovered dangerously over her, pointing its cannons at her. In that moment, Vyara really thought her life had come to an end. In a last ditch effort, she raised her arms to protect herself. That was when the bracelet on her wrist began to glow and the monster was suddenly pushed back, just enough for the stranger to defeat it too.

Once the horror from what had happened had finally died down, the stranger introduced himself to Vyara as Froi Tiedoll, an Exorcist from an organization called the Black Order. He explained to her the nature of Innocence and Akuma, pointing at her bracelet and telling her that it was likely an Innocence fragment and she was its Accommodator. (He also theorized that perhas her father, after coming in contact with the Innocence when he'd first bought it, had been killed by Akuma who had sensed its remnants on him.

He posed the question of whether Vyara would like to join the Order and fight as an Exorcist. Though she knew she would miss her hometown and her mother dearly, she also realized that, had Tiedoll not been there that day, they would have all been killed. In fact, her father had lost his life at the hands of the Akuma precisely because there hadn't been anyone there to save him that day. In order to prevent that from happening to anybody else, she vowed to herself to become an exorcist, and left her hometown alongsie General Tiedoll.

Upon her first arrival at Headquarters, she was greeted warmly by everyone. Not long after however, Komui told her they would have to reform her Innocence into a weapon she could fight with. At first Vyara was hesitant, knowing that would mean they'd have to destroy the bracelet given to her by her father. Of course, she had no choice but to agree, asking them to at least keep the small mountain crystal. Her wish was granted and after some thought, the Science Division created for her a spear, which, as Vyara herself said, reminded her of the thorns of the roses she'd spent years picking.

She had never used a weapon before in her life and as such, required training. She learned the art of fighting with a spear with the help of a handful of knowledgeable finders. Alongside that, Komui often assigned her to train in sparring matches with fellow Exorcists returning after missions. Out of all of them, she sparred most with Kanda, as per Tiedoll's own request and much to Kanda's dissatisfaction. However, that was also the training she learned most from. Kanda's ruthless attacks (albeit with a wooden sword), coupled with his unexpected advice, led to Vyara's rapid improvements. She was still nowhere near as good as him, but Komui decided she could hold her own in a fight against an Akuma.

Seeing as how she was already familiar with Kanda, he decided to send her on her first mission with him, Daisya Barry, and Noise Marie. Vyara quickly got to know all three and throughout the years built a strong and lasting relationship with them. Out of them, she best got along with Daisya and, noticing their excellent teamwork, likley due to their compatible fighting styles, Komui began sending them together on missions more and more frequently.

A month or so before Allen would join the order, the two were sent out on yet another mission together. On their way back, as they were passing through Bulgaria, Vyara asked Daisya to take a small detour and see how her hometown and her mother were doing. She mentioned that she was also running low on the rose oil and water she had brought with her when she'd first joined the Order, and needed to restock anyway.

The two neared the town, and Vyara excitedly rushed over the small hill. However, upon reaching it, she realized something was wrong. She could still see the decorations from the rose festival, despite it not being the time for it. As she walked through the streets, she realized the town was empty. All she found were homes left as if whoever lived in them had simply vanished. Not only that, but they had all left a single thing behind - their clothes.

That was when she realized. Her hometown had been attacked by Akuma. And there had been no one there to save it.

Plot

Order in Crisis Arc

During yet another mission with Daisya, he and Vyara receive the message of General Yeegar's death and are assigned to find General Tiedoll and protect him. After acquiring information on Tiedoll's whereabouts, the two meet up with Kanda near Barcelona, and are later also joined by Marie. Soon however, Barcelona is swarmed by Akuma, and, after defeating a handful of them, the four split off to each protect an area of it, deciding to meet up again at dawn, once they've hopefully exterminated all remaining Akuma. Throughout the night, they all fight tirelessly. Vyara reminds Daisya he should get his golem fixed once they return, since it continues to act up and disrupt his transmissions.

At some point, after defeating yet another Akuma, Vyara is surprised to encounter a well-dressed man with a tophat, who looks at her wide-eyed when she lands in front of him. She panics and explains that the city has been evacuated and he should make his way to the nearest exit before he gets injured or maybe even killed. She has an odd feeling about the man, but prefers to ignore it and prevent him from getting killed by destorying more Akuma, instead of losing precious time to escort him out of the city. At the time, she does not yet know that the man she'd encountered was actually Tyki Mikk.

A few hours later, she finds herself surrounded by multiple Level Two Akuma and, though she succeeds in defeating all of them, she badly injures her arm in an attempt to escape one of their attacks, which would have otherwise proven deadly to her. Dawn nears, and the Akuma in the city are few and far between. She manages to contact Kanda and Marie, though she never gets a hold of Daisya.

At first, she writes it off as his broken golem. As she walks around the city however, she discovers marks in the buildings that look much like those left from Daisya's Charity Bell. The marks continue down the same way she'd encountered the peculiar man earlier that same night, and she realizes it looks like Daisya must have struggled in a fight.

Her heart sinks and she dashes down the street, desperately calling out to him. Along the way, her fear gets the better of her and she trips and falls multiple times, further worsening the condition of her arm.

When she arrives at a big central plaza, the marks suddenly stop and she frantically looks around, only to find Daisya's body hung upside down on a lamp post.

After the arrival of a few finders, the body is inspected and they determine that, despite suffering no external injuries, one of his organs is missing, leading them to the conclusion that he must have been killed by the Noah who murdered General Yeegar. That's when Vyara realizes the man she had passed by on the streets must have been the very same person who had done this.

Deciding that her arm needed further medical treatment, and that Daisya's body would have been better protected if an Exorcist were to accompany the finders, Vyara leaves Marie and Kanda to find General Tiedoll, and returns to the Order, where a massive ceremony is held to honor their many fallen comrades over the last few days.

She does her best to move on, knowing that this is just the nature of the world she'd chosen to fight in. Even still, she keeps blaming herself for not preventing this.

Abilities and Powers

Bilingualism: Vyara can speak two languages fluently – Bulgarian and English.

Physical Prowess: Due to the weight of her Anti-Akuma weapon, Vyara’s physical strength is greater than average.

Accuracy: Due to the nature of her fighting style, Vyara’s accuracy is extremely high, even from long distances.

Flower Knowledge: During her time spent in her hometown, Vyara has learn a lot about gardening, flowers, and cultivating roses.

Innocence

Rosa Aetherius (ロザ.エテリウシ, Roza Eteriusu): An equipment-type, when activated Vyara’s Innocence takes on the form of a long spear. The spear measures about 210cm in length; on the end of it there is a small green cross, which is the actual Innocence fragment, while a small mountain crystal, which used to be a part of the bracelet that originally hosted the Innocence fragment, is embedded close to the tip of it, as per Vyara’s request. The shaft is made of steel and is extremely durable – Vyara often uses it to block attacks. The tip of the spear is made of silver, which is further reinforced when the Innocence is activated.

In general, contact with any part of the spear’s surface is harmful to Akuma. Vyara’s basic attacks are highly dependent on her physical capabilities and movements. By stabbing through them, the spear can easily destroy Level 1 and later on, Level 2 Akuma as well. It’s been noted by others that the spear is much heavier than it looks. It also emits a light green glow due to the Innocence.

When deactivated, the spear is much smaller and more compact, turning into a small rod, the two ends of which are slightly pointed. The rod is barely longer than Vyara’s open palm and she usually stores it in a leather holster on her right thigh.

  • Flower: Petal Rain (花「花びらの雨」, Hana: Hanabira no Ame): Upon activation of this special move, every 10 seconds a ring of light appears at the end of the spear. When 3 rings have appeared, Vyara can throw the spear and when it stabs through an Akuma, a rose bud appears at the end of it. The bud unravels and turns into a rose flower which then explodes and affects the Akuma surrounding it, as its petals spread and then begin falling, dissolving in the air. The explosion is strong enough to defeat nearby Level 1 and Level 2 Akuma.
  • Flower: Garden of Thorns (花「いばらの庭」, Hana: Ibara no Niwa): Vyara sets the spear in an upright position on the ground. Within a radius of 10 meters of her, rose vines rise from the ground and entangle the surrounding enemies, as their thorns pierce them. The attack can easily defeat Level 1 and Level 2 Akuma, the number of which depends on how many are within the 10-meter radius.

Level Two: Upon initiating Level 2 release, the cross at the back of the spear grows larger and can also be used as a second tip. Six long rhomboid particles of light appear around the silver tip of the spear, three on each side; they’re also capable of hurting Akuma and can either be used to increase the damage caused or be used in special moves.

  • Bloom: Rosa Palustris (咲く「ロサ.パルスツリス」, Saku: Roza Parusuturisu): The six particles of light align in a straight line, each of them aligned parallel to the spear itself. On Vyara’s signal, they shoot forward, stabbing through any Akuma in their path. Each particle is enough to defeat a Level 1 or 2 Akuma and hurt a Level 3.
  • Bloom: Rosa Adam (咲く「ロサ.アダム」, Saku: Roza Adamu): The six particles of light form a circle around the tip of the spear, each of them aligned parallel to the spear itself. On Vyara’s signal, they shoot forward, stabbing through any Akuma in their path. Each particle is enough to defeat a Level 1 or 2 Akuma and hurt a Level 3.
  • Bloom: Rosa Damascena (咲く「ロサ.ダマスケナ」, Saku: Roza Damasukena): The six particles of light form a circle around the tip of the spear, then they their tips all focus towards that of the spear, creating something of a big sharp point. Vyara can throw the spear and inflict further damage with the help of the particles. At first, this move was only enough to kill Level 1 and 2 Akuma and only temporarily incapacitate Level 3, however, later on this move is capable of destroying Level 3 Akuma as well.
