Moodboard
School years - Pre-patron
He was the quiet type, always holed up in the library. Considered 'best friends' with the library crew, even though they didn't really chat much—just enjoyed reading together in silence. Got in trouble for doodling triangles on his stuff because he was oddly obsessed with geometry, especially triangles, earning him that nickname. When he did open his mouth, it was usually with some weird, slightly creepy comment and a morbid sense of humor. Kind of reserved but also a bit quirky. Sneakily broke into professors' private libraries for some off-the-record reading, and surprisingly, he was rarely caught. Plus, the guy had a killer memory, acing tests left and right.
Teaching years (pre-patron)
He used to be the quiet type, but he found joy in teaching math. He was part of a tight-knit crew of professors and students, this awesome team hell-bent on merging magic and math. They were convinced that numbers held the key to the universe and all its magical secrets. Turns out, one of the professors in this crew used to be part of Triangles' 'library crew' back in their student days.
Triangles, however, wasn't too interested in blending magic and math. Nope, his thing was unlocking the deeper meaning behind triangles and geometry. In one of his thought experiment sessions, he stumbled upon a new form of geometry centered around precise triangle measurements (starting with good old Pythagoras and later throwing in some trigonometry). He’s elated! This is what he has been working towards his whole life. Everything he has done has been for this!! …but what now? He was now highly respected and celebrated by fellow mathematicians and travelled from college to college teaching his theorem. But that only lasted about a year or so before he started isolating himself from the rest of the team to focus on combining the theorem with his magic. It’s the logical next step, despite having very little interest in it previously.
As he dove into this magical-mathematical fusion, he started recalling those forbidden books he once devoured. You know, the ones with pacts and creatures that may or may not exist. At first, he brushed it off as a distraction, a way to keep his mind occupied. But as time ticked on and isolation set in, those moral boundaries blurred. Knowledge became the ultimate goal, and he was willing to go to any lengths to attain it.
Patron years plus!
Having effectively traded his soul to his Patron for knowledge and the uncanny ability to channel his mathematical prowess into raw eldritch power, Triangles began with the hope of dissecting and comprehending this newfound ability. The initial plan was to break it down, document the results, and enable others to replicate it.
However, that plan swiftly took a backseat as the energy coursing through him proved difficult to articulate. He struggled to put the experience into words and found it increasingly challenging to focus on a single task. His thoughts seemed to be tugged in myriad directions simultaneously, and his once-sharp memory became scattered.
As a result, his college mates and mathematics team gradually distanced themselves from Triangles. It became evident that he was no longer the same elf; he had become louder, more erratic, and, most disconcertingly, his moral compass seemed to have vanished. Anything went if it meant gaining knowledge.
Oddly enough, this transformation suited Triangles just fine. The narrow-minded thoughts and ideas of his former peers had begun to grate on him.
Triangles' Patron, always vigilant, observed his subjects through a glowing eye emblem, with Triangles sporting his on his hat.
The Patron hungered for more knowledge about Faerûn—its religions, diverse races, geography, and especially forbidden lore. Triangles reveled in acquiring knowledge, eagerly sourcing and providing the desired information. He never questioned why his Patron sought this wealth of information; his insatiable appetite for knowledge overshadowed any such concerns.
Notes
- He has wavy hair. I also like drawing him with a heart cowlick.
- Has blue triangles on his cheeks that glow when doing magic.
- His eyes also glow blue when doing magic or sometimes when he's being vaguely sinister.
- He always wears his gloves.
- Feel free to draw him in other outfits, masc or femme, as long as it's in the pink colour spectrum he's here for it.
TTriangles is totally smitten with Quinn. They're like the ultimate odd couple, but they connect over their weird obsessions and love to sit and info dump with each other.
Quinn's got the "doesn't-make-eye-contact" autism going on, while Triangles is all about that "makes-way-too-much-eye-contact" autism life. It works for them somehow.
Folks on the outside often worry about Quinn's well-being because Triangle's unhinged nature and penchant for getting into all sorts of trouble. However, Triangles ensures that Quinn remains uninvolved, except for the occasional adventure of sneaking him into hotel rooms in towns where Triangles might be a wanted man.
It's an ongoing joke between Triangles and Quinn that Triangles is Ghaunadaur's favourite. It's not, /not/ true.
Ghaunadaur's mostly the same as canon Ghaunadaur but home brewed a little. Also the colour scheme was changed from purple to blue.
