He/They - Lonely Tinkerer - Gay

It wasn’t supposed to feel, nor be able to think on its own. It was a simple, spider like robot, hastily made as his first. Normally, a robot on that level was something grand and brilliant, a marvel of technology deserving of awe. Alive with neither a heart nor brain, but expressive all the same. Those robots were to be admired, their creators praised for their brilliance.

Unfortunately, their body failed to live up to those expectations. Lively and cheerful, the robot was always so happy to greet him, day after day.

If he would’ve known, he wouldn’t have built it in the first place. He truly did adore them, but building it was a horrible mistake. He was an amateur, and they had a frame that barely worked despite his efforts. Even experts told him that they couldn’t be saved, and it would be best to scrap them. No matter how much he tried to detach, it would only make him feel more guilty. They were starting to get worried after all, and it only pained him to know they didn’t have much longer. They didn’t even have a name, so why did it hurt? He was selfish for not telling them the truth, yet he didn’t want to see their liveliness disappear. He was working against the clock, doing anything he could to save them. He refused to believe what they told, refused to lose his only friend.

If anything, he wished he could apologize to them.

Adonis Locke was born into his family as a middle child amongst many siblings, with his parents almonds always away as his siblings took care of him. While the conditions were okay, they didn’t care to place much attention on Adonis as they alway had something better to do than to hang out with their own siblings. As a child, he would always try to get anyone’s attention which nearly never worked. While his siblings were recognized and adored, Adonis was tossed to the wayside and forgotten. Even in school, no matter how much he’d try to make himself likable he ultimately ended up with no friends; many of them just wanted to use him to get closer to his siblings or ended up making him a outcast amongst outcasts. He was a perfectionist and a borderline prodigy, but it was never enough to get his siblings to notice him. Even as Adonis excelled in many activities, they were ultimately overshadowed by everyone else.

Even as they left home and changed their alias over to Locke as they went to a prestigious university, they were for the most part ignored. They studied hard and kept their head down. During this time, they started to look into robotics as he saw many videos of robots designed to fit their creator’s needs. For him, it was someone who wouldn’t have the capacity to judge him. No mind to judge, the perfect companion. A robot to help him organize and clean, that was it’s purpose. And so through hours of tutorials and time taken, Locke created a tiny, spider-like robot to turn in as a final for his university class. But as they turned it on for the first time, Locke discovered something else peculiar about it.

Through some tests that he had done, Locke had determined that the robot he made was indeed fully sapient. However, despite the initial surprise it was friendly with him, speaking through beeps in its monitor. It was a accidental miracle, Locke didn’t intend for it to be self aware nor the fact it seemed happy to see him. It seemed like a bright light in Locke’s dreary world, hope. Quickly, they became friends with their creation with the little robot cheering Locke on as he tried to socialize. Although they never meant to get attached, the little robot was his first friend and Locke wasn’t willing to let go any time soon. However, the robot’s body was the work of a amateur; broken and falling apart as it was never meant to last this long. Desperately Locke tried to fix them to no avail and when he sought help from other robot makers, they simply laughed and told him that it was better off scrapped as it wouldn’t cause the little AI so much pain...

Locke often started to stay up all night in order to help his friend, his only friend survive. However, the little robot noticed and became increasingly worried as he seemed so tired. As he didn’t want to upset them with the news, he hid what he was working on from them, deeply concerning them. Still to this day Locke works tirelessly, desperate to save his friend from shutting down forever and desperate to do whatever it takes to save them.

In the current day, a smile hide the loneliness and sadnesses that Locke feels. Although warm and friendly, many of Locke’s actions come across too strong, as the little robot tries to help him make friends. Locke rarely goes outside anymore, deeply worrying the robot as Locke seems to be wasting away just working.
