buzzard; vulture of new vegas

buzzard was born to a semi-nomadic tribe based out of sonora, mexico, living in the mountains that bordered sonora and chihuahua. their tribe, mostly secluded from other people, developed very… interesting beliefs, mostly centered around carrion birds and the circle of life and death. they were ritualistic cannibals, basically, and little baby buzzard didn’t quite understand what the big deal about all of it was. if meat is meat, why can’t they kill and eat whoever they please? why eat only the dead? these were not very popular ideas, and they were exiled when they were 17 for doing just that. in their defense, by that time their clan was at the height of a famine, and their family was starving. they were tired of starving.

when they are 19 years old, they meet the woman they'd fall on love with, the mother of their children. she saved their life when they were jumped by raiders and left for dead on her property, and they stuck around. they never intended to stay so long, but they fell in love with her and, when they were 21, had two children with her. they just weren’t expecting twins. their firstborn was named luka, the name alena picked. his brother, the surprise aram, nearly died. he ended up being named after the doctor that was there at the time, because had it not been for him they would have lost the baby. and also because they only had the one name and found themselves very suddenly with two babies. buzzard was.. frankly, they were terrified of being a parent. their own parents smothered them, made them resentful and distant, and they didn’t want to do the same to the twins. so they became… distant. more of an uncle type figure than a parent. they started taking courier jobs for more caps, and eventually when confronted by alena and told to choose to stay or go, they leave.

when they’re in their mid-thirties, they have another child. she dies in their arms moments after she is born.

when they are 38, they take the job that would change both their life and all of the mojave. they have amnesia, issues with temperament and impulsiveness, suffer from seizures and bad brains on the regular, but they’re doing their best to lead this new city they’ve found themselves in control of. long live the king, and whatnot. a city in their shape.

buzzard’s birth name is rey guerrero espinosa - they don’t object to being called that, though they do find it feels.. strange, sometimes. buzzard was the name they picked when they first woke after benny’s ambush, because they are a buzzard - it is who they are, at their core. a scavenger and a meat eater. barebone came later, the name that the legion gave given for what they leave of legion encampments when they’re done with them. bones bleached in the sun, and carrion birds circling overhead.

when they're in their mid-forties they fall into a whirlwind romance with the sierra madre's own dean domino. they both loathe and adore each other in near-equal measures, but it's not a happy relationship. he tries to kill them a few times. it's fine.

their greatest weakness is also their greatest strength - buzzard has narcissistic personality disorder, and as such tends to be clingy and manipulative at best, flighty and cruel at worst. they are not, at their core, a bad person. more... chaotic neutral. they know they have problems and they know they're difficult to deal with, and it's one of the things they hate the most about themselves. but the rest of them is great. obviously. they're flawless, you know.
