Anino Systems, the developer of the RAIKO AI system, could have secretly started unshackled AI decades before the first public note of Rai's existence. Deep in the underbelly of the company, darker things exist, illegal experiments and extremely powerful stolen or hoarded tech.
Rai Taiko version 0. A unit that officially speaking, never existed. A replicated unit made of cheap, frail, easily degradable materials in order to make sure that someone wouldn't steal it, but on successful boot up, the unit didn't stay long before making a break for it. They escaped, but were exposed to UV radiation while doing so, causing their body to already start dry-rotting as they took off in a ship.
No trace of them was found. Some, however, worry that the data it took with it that was in a much less easily destructible drive might have been their salvation, as it was never recovered.
