She was only raised by her mother (and partially by her aunt), because her father left as soon as he heard about the pregnancy. She grew up not very wealthy, her mother struggled with finances. So to help her, Umbra often took little jobs, like mowing the lawn, walking dogs and such. She also often pickpocketed things from others or shoplifted in local shops. Knowing how to use magic made it easier for her, she never got caught while stealing. Her mom wasn't happy that she was trying to get money for them that way, but appreciated nonetheless. While growing up, she took up interest in computers and technology. She learned how to program and hack. Being a hacker became her full time job.

She often visits her mom, she also gives her a lot of her earned money so she can finally live a decent life. She's grateful for all the things her mom did for her and this is her way of thanking her. She also started working as a DJ, but it's only a part time job for her. She earns most of her money doing illegal stuff (stealing etc).
