Story

As a Dainty, Minerva was considered a parasite on her residing planet. A variety of humanoids are welcome, but the minority resemble her species. Though not living among the streets, her family was considered barely a part of the working class. Working among her family at a young age, she became more experienced in labor than most children would. As a child, she was raised to believe that she can only protect herself, not depending anyone for anything. So when her maid café she spent her entire life working for was shut down, she had less than nothing.

As she matured, her stockings grew to represent what she had, nothing but her dignity. Dainties are reprimanded for being lesser creatures, taking and using others to get ahead in life. As a diligent worker, Minerva set to surpass those who looked down on her, feigning any sort of pleasure in their presence. She served as a retail worker, as well as a housemaid, taking all the petty insults that came from nothing but stereotypical banter. With her experience and tougher skin, she set out to work for herself. A maid café was Minerva's safest bet to being acceptable in other's eyes. Aware that a maid could be considered lesser than her master, she was able to make others still feel comfortable enough around her, while expressing her disdain for speciesists.

At her workplace, she had a customer who became regular, specifically meant for her. He was generous, and always seemed to be pleasantly content just from watching her. He ordered the same thing every time, a small cup of simple, black tea, but never finished it. She would nag him over him being weird and wasting her time and shop supplies, but he'd always just smile and laugh at her rants. She eventually just got used to his presence, as his kindness made her feel like she was welcome around him. However, she never let her guard down, in fear he'd stab her in the back. One night, left with a late shift, Minerva was overwhelmed with work. Clearly irritated, she finished the night, but received plenty of complaints. Shifty characters had been loitering in and out of her café, leaving her uncomfortable as she left. The regular customer had followed her out, managing to stay relatively close to her, despite her efforts to avoid the labeled stalker. He made light conversation, even with the girl brushing him off, insulting his behavior. A slight shift in his gaze went unnoticed, as he kept his pace next to her until she was home. She threatened him to stay away, that she'd alert authorities if he did such a thing again, yet appreciated his gratitude under her breath.

Not even a year had passed when Minerva arrived to her job one day to see her shop being torn down. The deconstruction was due to the establishment being considered "hazardous" and a "gathering place for misfits". The regular was already there, as if awaiting the store to open. She was disgusted with his attendance, yet, keeping his optimistic demeanor, he invited the distraught Dainty to a different café. From there, he introduced himself as Cyrus, looking to invite himself more into her life. She ignored him. Cyrus then proceeded to order a coffee and a platter of small desserts. Taking it as an insult, Minerva lashed at him, questioning his reasoning for ever returning to her shop if he would order as much there. He simply enjoyed her presence. She stormed off, and headed home. Cyrus quietly followed her, until she reached her residence safely.

For the next few months, Minerva lived as she did before. She handled her money carefully, and managed to survive independently for the time. Every so often, Cyrus would be out by her gate, patiently waiting like a trained puppy. He would proceed to follow her throughout the day, until she returned home. At first, it was an uncomfortable invasion of privacy; Constantly living in fear of threats looking to harm her for existing made her paranoid. Becoming more used to his presence, Minerva began to actually feel comfortable with someone for once. She would look to make her errands whenever he was around. Errands turned into coffee dates in which he paid, as she had no money. At one point, Cyrus stopped appearing entirely. For once, Minerva felt worry for someone else besides her self. He was her distraction, in an otherwise independent life. Her failure was nearing, she was almost entirely broke. From this moment, Heather would manifest, to voice these negative thoughts into her head.

Upon her darkest moments, Cyrus returned, with a slightly different air about him. He bluntly disregarded her jibes and questioned whether or not she wanted a job. She was bewildered, but cautiously entertained the offer. Cyrus returned with her to his home, a fine, large marble mansion. Minerva had put many pieces together about him, but was still dumbfounded at the privilege he owned. As with previous times, he'd hold the door open for her to enter, he sauntered past the entryway, not allowing the girl to take in the scenery. He brought her directly to a large office, in which an overweight human sat at a desk. Cyrus candidly stated that Minerva had accepted the job opportunity. The man was disgusted with her, just like everyone else, yet Cyrus' new air overwhelmed the man. The man, who called himself the owner of the mansion, reluctantly ushered Minerva to then complete paperwork in regards to her newfound job, as a full-time housemaid. Grateful to have an income again, she anxiously left her previous home behind, moving into the luxury estate. From then on, she served under Cyrus, deepening their bond, and living a safer life that any other Dainty would dream of.
