Chimaki grew up in Lavender Town running around temples and dojos, her earliest memory being her helping with a pokémon's funeral, she loved her town and family growing up. Spending so much time at her family's temples it was no surprise that her first pokémon was a Ghastly, who she named Lucy. Her family was surprisingly rich seeing how they lived rather humbly, this is due to them being one of the oldest Psychic families in Kanto that helped raise the Pokémon Tower. As she grew Chimaki's adventurous spirit never settled.

She never really found interest in the fighting aspect of her journey in Kanto, more finding herself doing it out of necessity, she was falling in love with raising eggs/pokémon and finding the different types of pokémon. Wanting nothing more than to take her time with each new species and travel the world to find new ones. This dream caused her to become a black sheep in her Psychic family, who took care of many of the shrines and dojos around Lavender Town and put tradition above all else. She was to complete her pokémon journey and then come back to become a mother or shrine maiden. Their different ideologies caused Chimaki to be excommunicated from her family and her changing her name. Chimaki joined a young up and coming group that was still small and desperate for members to help their cause, and she was young and trying to get out of becoming an actual pokémon trainer. What a perfect match,

Chimaki is apart of the International Pokédex Entry Group (IPEG), which is a group of people who travel around the regions that work together to compile a complete holistic Pokédex. IPEG works with the governments of the regions to help fund the local Pokédex research as well as the International one, many of the Professors work through the IPEG systems for information on research. The group works with trainers of all ages and expertise, having the philosophy that any research is good research as long as the location is stated, with IPEG working with their Field members on salary contracts that raise with the value of the information. The contracts range from a month to 10+ years, the latter is what Chimaki is in the tail end of.
