Personality

Ran is a complicated character, even to herself. She balances an awkward line of anxious and aggressive at first, prepared to snap your head off and then overthink it once she has the chance. She's generally cold and comes off uncaring at first, but once you prove yourself to her, you find she's not nearly as icy as she seems. Past their tough barrier, she's a caring, joking individual who enjoys witty banter and bad jokes. She loves a friendly argument, always eager to test her own wit, but that "friendly" atmosphere can disappear when it pushes into territory she's unwilling to change her beliefs in. When talking about her family in particular, Ran will (at best) clam up or (at worst) snap and bite your head off. However, her anger is more a defense mechanism against those who have hurt her. She really just wants a family and friends again.

Trivia
  • One of Ran's more embarrassing nicknames is "Ducky".
  • Ran was orphaned at 10, and her older sister denied custody. Ito Shun, one of her sister's old school friends, took her in.
  • Ran's quirk doesn't allow her to lie. If she lies, her body starts to attack itself like it's infected.
  • Ran will eat/drink anything when tired. This includes a sponge she was once fed.
  • Ran is an animal person and has absolutely hidden strays in her dorm room.
Abilities
Lie Detector
If someone lies within hearing distance of Ran and she hears them, her vision will go black for a few seconds. The darkness radiates from the liar, so she knows who lied. She does not intrinsically know what they lied about.
Mind Link
If Ran wants to search for the truth within a liar, she can search their mind. However, to do this, she needs to 1) be in physical contact with someone (no clothes, no barriers) and 2) needs either their permission or for them to be unconscious. This takes a great strain on her and exhausts her for days, depending on how long she maintains the link (usually only a few minutes at best). The link is dangerous since, while she's searching the liar's mind, they can search hers.
History

Ran was raised in the suburbs of Nakano, her parents working in Tokyo. She was the second daughter of the Abe family, the first being her older sister, Minami, who was eight years her senior. Ran and Minami didn't get along great as the age gap was too wide for them to relate to the other. Not to mention, Minami had not wanted a sister and had taken up the notion that she would not acknowledge Ran is she could. Their relationship was destroyed when Ran was ten when their parents died due to a villain attack on the train route they took home. Minami, now a private detective, rejected taking custody of Ran. Ran bounced around the foster system for a few months before Ito Shun managed to find her and adopted her on the spot. Ran didn't know how she felt on Ito and treated him like a weird older roomate as opposed to a parental guardian. Thus, Ran finished middle school and went into high school in Ito's care, not seeing hide nor hair of her sister during all that time.

Relationships
unknown.png
Shinsou Hitoshi

Ran's childhood best friend before everything went to shit in her life. As two kids outcast by their quirks, they worked together to defend each other from the bullies. They were separated when Ran was tossed into the foster system, but re-met at U.A. when they both ended up in the same General Course class and reconnected over their shitty luck in life. Suzuki Hotaru

Ran's first genuine friend at U.A, a second-year student in the Hero Department. They met, technically, in middle school when Suzuki saved Ran from some bullies, but never talked outside of that. They re-met at U.A. when Suzuki used her quirk to stop a mugging without a liscense. Suzuki reached out at school and they've been friends since. Sometimes, depending on the universe, they're dating and are girlfriends. [Suzuki is owned by emberchii. Art credit also goes to them.]

Midoriya "Deku" Izuku

Ran's eventual boyfriend and later husband, Ran and Izuku met at U.A. during their first year. It was bit of an awkward start, but their mutual love of heroes and the mechanical side behind their Quirks brought them together as friends, which quickly evolved into something more. It took a painful amount of time for them to finally admit their feelings for each other, but once they did, it never wavered and they stuck together thereafter.
