Summary

THE WAKING
They say one strum of her lyre is magical, and the sound of her voice enchanting.  Having made her way as an entertainer from place to place, it's hard not to enjoy Cyntara's performances.  Whispers from those lucky enough to talk to her after her shows say she's so gracious and charming - how could anyone say no to someone like that?   Little does her audience know that besides the last few years, she can't recall anything of her history.
The young Changeling woke up on the beaten shore of the nearby settlement of Asteris with a shimmering, silver lyre, a vial of dragon blood, and the gentle echo of her patron's words in her mind:  "You wouldn't want to remember what came before."  No matter how hard she tried to think, she could only remember one thing:  the name Cyntara, a name which she ended up taking on as her own.
Luckily, the city of Asteris - famously known as the treetop city - was a melting pot of Tiefling, Genasi, and Dragonborn alike, making a Changeling like her more accepted, though still treated with a wary eye.  To her great luck, the city itself was renowned for its arts, culture, and arcane districts, so she took up her lyre and took to performing in the tavern and various venues, going from musician, to actor, to poet, or whatever the world needed of her most.  For safety, she created the persona of "Cyn", a Tiefling entertainer who roams the world in search of adventure.  Due to her lack of memory, her persona is unlike that of most Changelings in that it still reflects herself, evident in how 'Cyn' is merely a nickname for Cyntara.  It primarily serves as her primary face when entertaining in order not to frighten individuals paranoid of her race, and to keep herself safe from those who would do her harm.
Alongside performing at taverns every night to earn a living, Cyntara also enlisted in the Order of the Homunculus, a warlock-exclusive guild that freely taught her how to hone her powers at the expense of running occasional errands to help the guild make bank.  Here, she grew close to one of her guildmates, a warlock by the name of Faevyr Vereth, a dragonborn with notably luminous black scales.  Lively, but with a stubborn streak, Faevyr remains the only individual who knows of Cyntara's true self, owing to an accident on a guild errand where she fainted due to a untrained sorcerer's misfire of Fire Bolt.  Instead of treat her with suspicion, Faevyr helped her and even taught her Draconic, so she could more easily blend in with her shapeshifting abilities.
Though Cyntara enjoyed her time in Asteris, her anxiety and confusion over who she was and where she came from grew with each day.  Had she done something awful, and been bound to her patron as a consequence?  If so, she had a duty to seek out her own redemption.  With a bittersweet goodbye to the city and her old guild, she set for a new path:  to find out just why she washed ashore with her memories magically erased by her patron all those years ago.

PATRON
Cyntara's patron is Aurel, Prince of the Midnight Gale.  A kirin born of the Celestial realm, Aurel made a name for himself in the Feywilds by claiming a piece of territory as his own, having sought more control over enacting change in the planes for the name of good.  Having lived in the Feywilds for millennia, he has retained the powers of most Archfey, including the ability to shift into a more humanoid form, an ability reminiscent of his fellow Archfey Neiflon, the Lord of Bats.  They say if you look up to the stars at night and feel a warm wind at your back, it is the echo of Aurel, encouraging you to seek out the light in the darkness.
Cyntara's strange horns and tail in her true form are incidentally a 'gift' from her benevolent patron.   Though Aurel has given her relative freedom and sanctuary despite their pact, she suspects her patron had some involvement in the disappearance of her memories.  Any question regarding her memories he has outright refused to answer, or answered with silence.   They nonetheless seem to be on friendly terms, with Aurel sharing Cyntara's liveliness and preference for mediation (though the latter is likely to be an effect from Cyntara's pact with Aurel), and the Archfey being keen enough to occasionally murmur unnecessary remarks into Cyntara's mind when something in her surrounding catches his interest.  One such recent example includes a play Cyntara watched named 'The Tales of Myrlin and Larrir', a sappy love story by Cyntara's terms that Aurel claimed caused him to sob in the midst of the Feywilds.  Despite this, Aurel is not childish - he is responsible and wise, but seems to have quite the sensitive and impulsive streak when it comes to using his tongue.

WARLOCK BY DAY, IDOL BY NIGHT
Cyntara's entertaining acts gave her much prominence in the city of Asteris.  Though short lived, she was part of the band Phantasmal Force as a lead songstress, alongside two Tiefling siblings: a wizard named Euphony who played on a magical drumkit and a bard named Melody who played on a lute.   They eventually broke up their group due to artistic differences because Cyntara preferred staying with the Order to hone her Warlock skills as opposed to travelling around the lands, but their one hit wonders like "It's That Chill Touch", "Let Me Be Your Unseen Servant", and "Protection from Evil and Good and You" had launched her into considerable prominence, scoring her lead roles in plays and competitions alike.   She still remains in good standing with the siblings, namely bonding over the fact they get many fan letters mailed to them begging the group to come back together.
Cyntara, by virtue of being a prominent entertainer, has also received a love letter from Paelle de L'Aurent - a wood elf heir of one of the noble families of Asteris.  It reads:
Dear Cyntara,
You are the sun to my moon,
the Sky Mortal to my Ocean Man.
I hereby in this letter declare my love to you,
For your sparkling eyes are like shimmering amber gems
that act like the fireflies in the night outside my Father's quite impressively-invested clock tower.
Please consider going on an evening stroll with me?
With your undying love,
Paelle de L'Aurent

Scribbled on the bottom right corner is a nearly-illegible address, along with some badly doodled hearts.  Cyntara is not sure what to make of it, but she carries it with her anyway.  Yay to connections?

THE ORDER OF THE HOMUNCULUS

The Order of the Homunculus is a warlock-exclusive guild dedicated to research on the magical bonds between patron and warlock, and sometimes familiar.  The warlocks who have passed through their guild halls are renowned for their clever and charming natures. While an average warlock may run an errand to fetch a shipment in order to get their hands on a precious book, a Homunculus warlock may convince the shopkeeper to instead let them host a fabulous dinner which would surely net them contacts for more valuable shipments in exchange for the book.   They say though a Homunculus warlock is unpredictable, they are the most reliable - if you can pin down their loyalty, that is.  Entrance to this guild is obtained by convincing the sentient Homunculus statue guarding it (which can speak common) to let you through.  Guild members have fondly called the statue Arcturus.
Common Warlocks: Pact of the Chain Archfeys, Celestials

The Order is actually one of three encompassing a larger institution in Asteris, The Order of the Three, which seeks greater knowledge of warlock magics, governed by the Twin Headmasters.  Each branch researches a different aspect of Warlock magic, and all three freely accept students, as long as they're willing to run some errands for their respective guilds during their tutelage.

The Order of the Rakshasa seeks knowledge on the nature of warlock spells, though summoning magicks are occasionally sought for by the guild.  They are renowned for their determination, going to any length to obtain the tomes they are seeking, as long as falls under city guidelines.  Some members of these order make effective city guards, as one of the Rakshasa act on a fight first, think later basis.
Common Warlocks:  Pact of the Tome Fiends, Undying

The Order of the Owlbear seeks knowledge on the origin of warlock enchantments, which make their specialty magical artifacts and weapons.  These warlocks are known for their innovative and brave natures, sometimes putting their bond with their patron at risk to achieve some advancement for the city.  They are often tinkerers at heart, and can spend hours locked up in their guild halls plotting new inventions.

FURTHER ADVENTURES
...To be continued...

Cyntara's Improv Song she performed at the Pitstop
the lady of the woods in the neck of othenwood
is guarded by the foxes den which coil safely at her feet
she does not take kind to strangers
who come to her seat.
she fights dragons and knights
with fae magic for flair
they tell children be wary
lest you catch her stare.
and should you travel too deeply
in the thickets of othenwood
you'll find your body will turn
to the stiffest of wormwood.

Cyntara's Improv Song she performed in Dormengard:
the fae spoke to me through misty dreams and even trees
past the heart of khevnah city
if you close your eyes a blink you'll find
you'll fade between the aether
so don't go cross the fae's home plane
lest you find you've gone insane.

list of dumb chaotic shit
- made monty fly invisible to an npc's house with a bottle of alcohol, freaking out the townsguard by having an invisible bottle of alcohol float through the air
- steal someone's robes for the sole purpose of impersonating them
- throw an eldritch blast at some douchebag halfway through his villain monologue
- pulling out a giant painting of a stranger and his friends and asking said stranger "do you need a visual guide?" in the middle of his recovering-necromancer story

Design

• I generally prefer art of her Changeling form, but feel free to draw her Tiefling form as well! (click on the gallery and scroll to the bottom for a ref!)

• Feel free to draw her as other races as well - but please keep her hair style (if applicable) and colour palette!

Trivia

• She secretly writes novels, and tries to sell them at bookstores. They are notably awful, and most seem to be fanfiction-like. She won't tell anyone that, though.

• Her horns and tail are a 'benevolent gift' from her patron Aurel, who is a Kirin. Most changelings don't have em!

• Her preferred form to show to others is a Tiefling, because it's closest to her true self. She likes forms where she has her signature horns and tail (otherwise she feels 'naked'), and the scrutiny Tieflings are looked at she feels is similar to how Changelings are percieved. Also, knowing Infernal helps!

• She's a Gemini!
