Shen was born and cared for in her early years on the Continent of Lydil, neighboring Etharia to the west. Her parents were too young and inexperienced to care for her, so they made the ultimate decision to adopt her out to another wanting family, finding the perfect one for her in Halivaara. Soon after her birth, she was sent to Etharia, arriving in the Isosia Wilds to move south with her new loving family. She spent her childhood very well-loved and respected, her parents wanting her to be aware of her origin and the sacrifices her biological parents made for her. This openness and gentle parenting helped Shen immensely during her crucial developmental years, making her a kind and honest young lady- though she ended up being a bit more direct and honest than what could be socially necessary in certain cases. Her teachers, despite her directness being a slap in the face once in a while couldn't help but respect it, wanting her to be an honest woman rather than a fibber. Shen spent a lot of time in her school's libraries, reading up on the history of her birth country, as well as the one she currently calls her home. She fell in love with the patterns and beauty of history and humanity, deciding she wanted to assist with its preservation in the future.

After graduation and under the tutelage of her school librarians, Shen was able to make her mark in Halivaara's literature sector, where she ended up employed at one of the more historic libraries on the continent, Grand Archive Athenaeum. She worked as an understudy assistant librarian for years, until the Athenaeum was passed down to her in her boss's retirement. With this gift being passed onto her, she took matters into her own hands to be sure that the library is cared for and respected the way it always should be, which may come off as a bit strict to those outside. Shen considers the gift one of the greatest honors and continues to do right by the history and mission of the library, making sure everything is in its place and things are done just right.
