Leonidas Solus

 Appareance

 

Leonidas belongs to Salarian specie. He's a kind of bipedal amphibian with a tall and elongated body, and his skeleton is composed of more cartilage than those of other races such as humans. Leonidas's head is long and thin, and have a pair of horns protruding from the top of his skull. His skin is a kind of pale pink / beige, contrasting with a darker pink at the level of his horns. He has blue electric markings at the top of the skull, extending behind all his skull until the beginning of his neck. His blood is a greenish color. Leonidas's eyes are large and oval and have thin membranes in place of eyelids.  The pupils are a wide slit, oriented horizontally, and his irises are dark grey. Leonidas blinks upwards, rather than downwards as humans do. 

 

He usually wears a white sleeveless tunic with a raised collar. This tunic has in the top a gold inversed " T " , a silvered mark in the middle, and two electrics blues big stripes in the bottom on each side. He has a white leggings with two blue electric stripes on each leg, and white form-hugging boots up to his knees. These same boots have a light yellow stripe at the level of toes, and have at the level of ankles two yellow ribbons. Leonidas wears a white shirt and gold bracelets at the beggining of his bows, mostly hidden by his forearm protectors. These lasts are white, with a red stone and a " U " red line. In the end of forearm protectors, there's three grey bracelets. Leonidas always wears articulate grey gloves. When he's in his lab, he sometimes wears a white doctor blouse.

 

 

 

Personnality

 

Leonidas is, unlike most of Salarians could looking, a happy and jovial teenager. He thinks even if the galaxy was fallen down, he must always be jolly, for give strenght to his allies. Being overactive, he's very dynamic, willing to jump everywhere, dances and sings wrong for no reasons and do jokes. He's often smiling, due to his permanent joy. He talks fast, forgets sometimes some words, being right in the heat of the moment. He loves rapidity, fastness and good and clean works. He likes to be quick in his works, adrenaline and chain reactions. Finishing good and fastly his works, he can like that to concentrate on something else.

 

He's curious of everything, and always wants to know more. He loves to study, and can study in the full night. Leonidas has heritated of his father's talent, he's a brilliant and genious scientist and doctor, while he's only 15 years old. He already founds many improvements for weapons and remedies for illness and wounds. When he's bored or don't have any mission given, he's looking for notes of previous no-finished works of his dad, and continues his experiments until he finds what he wanted. He loves to care people, saying relieving them and to see them stand in front of him in full health is just a happiness. He cares a lot of his patients, wanting protecting them until they're okay. For him, it's his task and his duty . He dislikes when someone wants prevent his cares about someone else, because it prevents his responsability.

 

Except his talent for scientific researchs, Leonidas has an other talent : haggling. Needing medical materials and money for his researchs, he recuperates soldiers equipment for sell it, with sometimes improvements he added. He never buys his ware or a to a ludicrous price for sells to a golden price. Fortunatly for the bourse of his clients, he don't sells very often, only when he needs to funds or has nothing to do.

 

Leonidas is the first Salarian becaming in love of someone. Indeed, Salarians can't fall in love with others, but him, being slightly a mutant, is in love with Esperance, Ange Shepard's daughter. He can't explain why, but he loves her a lot. Her awkardness, her freckles, her personnality attires him and he sometimes hugging her, finding her " so cute, he can't resist " . He could do anything for her - except if it's too much.But he don't thinks he's in love with her, thinking he only feels " a very strong friendship " for the young girl.

 

Leonidas have an incredible hatred against the human terrorism organization Cerberus, responsable of his family murder, his father included. Salarians have photographic memories and rarely forget a fact. They have an incredible memory, and rarely forget something. Leonidas isn't an exception. So, he remembers of anything, but badly, he has forever pictures of his family being killed on Sur'Kesh in front of him by an agent of Cerberus. Already schoked by these violents pictures having at this time 7 years old, he's traumatized for his entire life by the death of his father, killed by Cerberus too. A hate without mercy was maded by the young boy always glad for Cerberus, and promised to himself to venge his family and every other person snatching from their family and killed by the terrorism organization.

 

Even if Leonidas is looking smiling, jovial and happy, he's not stupid. He knows Salarian aren't the best specie of the galaxy. Indeed, these last are weaks, don't have a good army in the body-to-body, not taken seriously, and Protheans and Krogans LOVE to eat their kidneys and liver. But he does with that, and even mumbles that these disadvantages can ultimately give him advantages. But when someone asks him to tell more about his idea, he always replies by a smile, and goes away...

 

Leonidas, unlike his friends isn't a soldier. Even if he's able to use weapons, he hates to be taken for missions, finding it " foolish ", because he always thinks someone will eat him outside, or there's better soldiers than him. Worst, he's afraid to kill someone who shouldn't be. He thinks peoples who must be killed is because he has no choice, and not for the free violence, he don't feel allowed to kill an innocent by error. But Serena noticed something of interesting : If Leonidas knows the person must be killed because they're a bad person or it's obligated, he will shoot the person, with an incredible cold blood. The most important is he will never have remorses, and it's an excellent quality for a soldier. 

 

But Leonidas prefers to stay in his clinic for heal his patients and continue his researchs. But it's not because he prefered to be a civil instead of a soldier he don't knows how use weapons. If one of his friends needs to be rescued, endangered by someone of hostile, the young Salarian will take a M-3 Predator and kill the agressor, with coldness. He even prepared to defend his clinic, and mostly, persons inside, hurted or ills. No one knows he hides an old Gatling mitrailleuse of the 20th century in the infirmary, if one day, the Normandy is attacked or invaded. Strangely, he have a strange pleasure to kill ennemies with this weapon, because it's surely the only weapon he likes to manipulate for an unknown reason.

 

Background

 

In Salarian's civilization, there's many clans.The salarians are amphibian haplo-diploid egg-layers; unfertilized eggs produce males and fertilized eggs produce females. Once a year, a salarian female will lay a clutch of dozens of eggs. Social rules prevent all but a fraction from being fertilized. As a result, 90% of the species is male. Former social codes determine who should fertilize the eggs and so, engendrate females for to perpetuate the lineage. In general, fertilization takes place only after months of negotiation between the parents clans, and this in one goal : political and dynastic alliances.

 

Mordin Solus, being an important ally and companion of both Shepards, was considered as a hero by his civilization. He was invited by a Dalatrass to fertilize an egg of a female as gift, who is a great honnour, for someone no having clan. Mordin couldn't decline, and went on Sur'Kesh for have his daughter. 

Unfortunatly, Mordin had the leave the planet without see the birth of his little girl for an important mission.

For the great surprise of Dalatrass, Mordin's fertilized egg, once hatched, don't gave a young girl, but a boy, which is impossible. He was called Leonidas, in the honnour of the great human general. He don't had a Salarian name because peoples was wondering if he really was a Salarian, for be born from a fertilized egg and be a boy. Leonidas was the first male Salarian having a father.

But Mordin had never received news of his son. Peoples of Leonidas's clan prefered no one out of their planet knows the existence of the young Salarian, being scared some scientists try experiments on him. Even if on his planet, others wanted to do experiments on him, but the dalatrass never allowed them to touch the little boy.

Leonidas grew up with his many half-sisters and brothers. He knews he had a father but he wasn't allowed to talk of him.He was happy of the life and curious of anything. But, one day, Cerberus agents attacked his planet for steal Salarians's knowledge. His mother and his siblings were killed in the attack in front of his innocent eyes. Luckily, an alliance's vessal came for to rescue Salarians civils and to prevent Cerberus's attack. Leonidas and the dalatrass of his clan was took with them. One time the peace came back, soldier in the vassal asked to the dalatrass who is the closest person willing to have the custody of Leonidas, being now without mother. The dalatrass, sad, talked of Leonidas's father : Mordin Solus. So, immediatly, a message was sent to Mordin for recuperate his son, in the Citadel. Leonidas was immediatly sent to this place. Leonidas and Mordin had never seen each other since 7 years.

It was a thunderbold between them. Both were very happy to meet them. They get along very well, began to do experiments together, the father maked discovers alien species to his son, who, except humans and Salarians, don't knews. They talked together everytime they had the possibility, sang. Mordin teached to Leonidas anything he knews, in biology, genetic, culture, and even dangerous political secrets. They were like an only person, and if they weren't father and son, they could be best friends.

Mordin had an apartment in the citadel since he received Leonidas. Being an crew member of the Normandy SR-2, he had obligations to go in missions with the two Shepards. But no wanting his son was embroiled with wars, he leaved each time his offspring in the Citadel, promising it wouldn't be long.

One day, his father was called for to go for a mission in the Normandy SR-2. He leaved Leonidas once again, promising as always it wouldn't be long. The little boy smiled and said it was okay, and he will wait as long as it takes, even if he's pressed to continue experiments with his beloved dad. He waited. He waited. He waited. But he had no news of the Normandy or of his father since since 3 weeks. The rent of the appartment was not longer paid, due to no news of Mordin, and the boy was ejected. But he didn't care, because he knews his father will came back and fix the problem. But, the day after his expulsion, the Normandy came back. Relieved, the young Salarian ran on the landing field, excited to see his father. When both Shepards were out of the vassal, Leonidas's smile sank for to be remplaced by an expression of incomprehension. Ange announced with a sad expression the news to the child : Mordin was dead. Firstly, Leonidas don't trusts him, telling him he was lying, it wasn't possible. But Ange, suddenly, put his hand on Leonidas's shoulder, saying Mordin was killed by Ceberus, they did their best for rescue him, but without success. Hugging him and trying to dry Leonidas's tears, he said he " was sorry " . Leonidas was 10 years old. The child was at this moment alone in the world.

After the mourning of his beloved dad, without money, work or home, Leonidas asked to rejoin the equip of the Normandy for offers his help and revenge his family, wanting to heal injuried soldiers, for these lasts go to exterminate Cerberus. But it was refused a lot of time. But he never abandoned, and finally, he was finally listen by children of both Shepards, and at this moment, he became the scientist, the doctor and the genetist of the team.
