Kazuo Nekonaki (猫啼一生 Nekonaki Kazuo) is a bakeneko that lives near a shrine in the mountains. He was once a powerful yokai that ruled the mountain, but he gave up his territory after a human saved his life. Feeling indebted, he now protects the descendants of his human savior. Because yokai are no longer as common as before, he lives a relatively carefree, lazy life. However, he is fiercely protective if needed.
He has three forms:
- regular cat - he appears as a normal-sized orange cat with unusual markings, no fire/talismans
- true form - large cat form, roughly the size of a tiger, fire/talismans are visible
- human form - appears human, has visible ears/tail to those who know he's a bakeneko or those who are sensitive to the supernatural
