Personality

she’s an extremely complicated individual, tortured from years of physical abuse and mental toil, yet she is more than capable of compassion and optimism under the right circumstances. cirrus’s outside impression is crazed and intimidating, shielding her emotions and trying to distance herself from the world. her mannerisms are somewhat childlike and unpredictable, leading one to believe that she is slightly insane, and making those interacting with her unsure of her true intentions or feelings. however, if one is persistent, she warms up to them and begins to display fractions of her pre-war self - spontaneous, empathetic and somewhat awkward/easily flustered. however, she can also be fatally reckless and short-tempered, and lashes out when she can’t bottle up her emotions any more. her intelligence can be as much of a danger as it is as asset, too, for her plans often sacrifice herself and others for what she claims is “the greater good.” her morals are questionable, especially for an autobot. she is riddled with paranoia and untrustworthiness towards others. it occasionally gets so bad that she speaks to what seem to be bots that are not there. any questions about it are tactfully ignored. with all of her flaws and trauma, in reality, cirrus is just a child, thrown into a chaotic world too soon. more than anything, she wants a family again, and to be accepted despite everything she’s done.

Story

cirrus and her twin brother solarsight were born to lightwing and neutron, both senators residing in iacon. they were forced to grow up quickly in the waning hours of the golden age, pressured to be perfect by cybertronian society and living with a sire and carrier who seemed to despise each other. it was discovered early on that both cirrus and solarsight possesses outliers - augmented telekinesis and foresight respectively - and neutron, having passed on his outlier to cirrus, began to teach her how to control it. under circumstances that are only vaguely outlined by cirrus herself, neutron lost his mind from using his outlier and went on a spree, murdering many people before his sparklings caught up to him. they hid, but solarsight was granted a vision, and instructed cirrus to confront him. when she revealed herself, he tried to kill her, but was overpowered by her and stabbed multiple times in self-defense. neutron begged cirrus to kill him, and she did, much to her regret. when senator shockwave formed the academy of advanced technology, he sought out the twins, having met them during one of many formal events. while attending the academy, cirrus grew very close to shockwave, intrigued by his judge of character and bluntly honest demeanor. she was distraught when she discovered what he had become. not long after, the war for cybertron began. cirrus and solarsight enlisted with the autobots, the former becoming a medic trainee and the latter trying out engineering. cirrus met virtue, a fellow trainee with a phlegmatic personality, and another engineer named avian, a pretty femme who stole cirrus’s spark at the first glance - although their relationship would become complicated. as the war progressed, she was exposed to death and destruction, and lost many patients. angry at herself and at the decepticons, she walked away from the path of a medic, and requested to be on the front lines as a soldier along with her brother. they were not made for battle, and neither of them cared. they both underwent augmentations to give themselves an edge - solarsight received heavy duty armor plates, while his sister amplified her hearing. fury brought focus, and cirrus quickly rose through the ranks, gaining a squadron as a result. they undertook many dangerous missions, and she was introduced to a mysterious mech who was giving the autobots trouble - acidreign, a member of megatron’s inner circle. she thwarted his plans one too many times, leading him to take it upon himself to end her life. his pursuit of the femme resulted in the death of virtue and avian, the latter whom had (for a time) been in a relationship with cirrus. the last straw for acidreign broke when cirrus convinced two soldiers under acidreign’s command to defect to the autobots - sanguine, a troubled young mech with an outlier, the ability to drain energon out of anyone he touched - and octane, a proud triplechanger whose charms lead to cirrus developing a bit of a puppy crush on him. outraged, acidreign ambushed and nearly killed cirrus, but she managed to get the upper hand in the end. she spared his life, knowing that megaton would offline him anyway for his failure, which he did. sanguine and lightwing, the twins’ carrier, were hunted down and executed by the decepticons, and the final battles broke out between the two factions. cirrus was separated from her squadron, overpowered by a decepticon seeker, but her life was saved by her brother. much to her horror, solarsight was gunned down by megatron and left for dead. he received a final vision before he died, but could not tell her in fear of changing the future. when he passed, cirrus fled, unable to bear the death of the ones she loved and the mutilation of the planet. her squadron was disbanded after they were discovered dead, and octane perished before cirrus could express her feelings for him. for years, she lived out of her brother’s ship, the operator, having flown it to a dreadfully remote part of cybertron, and survived by staying in stasis for long periods of time and scavenging for energon scraps. her only motivation to stay alive was her scathing desire to avenge her brother. resentment built for both the decepticons and autobots, for in her mind, they were both responsible for cybertron’s demise. when two autobots escaped shockwave’s base, destroying his space bridge and injuring him, cirrus found him, and quietly repaired his wounds out of a sense of obligation to the mech who was once her friend. after he emerged from stasis, he convinced a fearful cirrus that he would spare her life and take her in, leading to a sort of partnership between them. with no allegiance to either the autobots or decepticons, she aided shockwave in his research of project predacon, for no reason other than idle curiosity. in return for her services, shockwave offered her a steady supply of energon and access to old historical archives. cirrus struggled to suppress her returning affections for the decepticon scientist, sensing that despite his emotionless facade, he remained the mech he used to be, past everything. it drove her to actively work to re-power her ship and leave. after acquiring enough energon from him, cirrus used it to get off-world, although it destroyed her to do so. crash-landing on a backwater planet called earth, she was tracked down by the remaining autobots, and although hesitant, was recruited to their cause once more. she acted simply as air support in the field primarily, and when she revealed her outlier to the rest of the team, used it sparingly to get others out of trouble. cirrus also helped ratchet work on the synthetic energon formula, but most of the formula was beyond her skill level to understand. at some point during the war on earth, cirrus was captured by the decepticons to aid in cloning more predacons, her knowledge deemed somewhat valuable due to her previous involvement in the project. after initially resisting, she relented only by shockwave’s request, and worked with him for a short period of time to clone the beasts. during that time, shockwave and cirrus tried to resolve their differences, although cirrus refused to admit that she still had lingering feelings for him. this caused significant tension and awkwardness, mostly on her part. when the project was terminated and her usefulness to the decepticons was outlived, she narrowly managed to escape termination and fled back to the autobots. after the war ended and the well of allsparks was brought back online, cirrus and shockwave finally reconciled completely and retired together in iacon city.

Trivia

  • yellow is cirrus’s favorite color. it reminds her of her brother’s golden plates.
  • her batons have three transformation modes: dormant (when strapped to her back, they collapse into themselves so they become smaller), active (standard appearance, when being used for combat), and weaponized (transformed into either the scythe or gun respectively).
  • her weapons were handcrafted by her twin as a gift to her. it took him thousands of years to perfect their design.
  • calls herself a “recreational scientist.” while never formally studying science at any academies, she fostered the hobby for many years both before and during the war, leading cirrus to possess a valuable sum of scientific knowledge.
  • during the war, cirrus had a streak of successful missions, and was eventually promoted to air commander with her own squadron. they became her closest friends.
  • she rarely, if ever, uses her outlier, out of fear of her own slipping sanity as well as what others would think of her.
  • cirrus once had an addiction to a type of mutated energon. it is one of the things that caused a the downfall of her first relationship.
  • as the war for cybertron progressed, she made a deal with one member of her squadron to not repaint their scratches and wounds until the war was won. her paint is very chipped and unkempt as a result.
  • her alternate mode is a modified rutan varieze, while she could transform into a cybertronian fighter jet previously. due to her anatomy, this rutan varieze is clearly modified, particularly with the addition of engines on the back instead of a propeller.
  • the engines on the bottoms of her feet can be used as thrusters while in robot mode, albeit for a short time. it is notoriously difficult to keep balance.
