History

Kate was born in the isolated mountainbound village known as Knari and lived here for most of her childhood. She was raised solely by her mother who pushed the young girl heavily into becoming a researcher just as she had been in her hayday,. And their grandmother before them. Due to her mothers heavy instruction and dedication to Kates learning the child learned to read and write at a significantly earlier age than most other children in the village and proceeded to garner a deep interest in specific areas including biology, ecology and religion.

Knari is a highly isolated and very spiritual community. It promotes a sense of oneness in its small community and the idea of sharing and ‘it takes a village’ are considered normal. Most residents devote themselves to food or clothing production as the town does not have many exports. Additionally as per their culture land and sky dwelling animals are considered sacred and so residents tended to be pescatarians (this sacred philosophy does not extend to sea creatures). Knarinians have a bond with the world around them that far surpasses the need for language but they do have their own language that is an altered version of a language long since lost elsewhere. Rituals and rules combined with this isolated location lead to it being a very special place to grow up.

Kates life was surrounded by these traditions and she practised them alongside the rest of her town, opting to get their traditional tattoos on her palms when she reached the age of 16 and was able to make that choice. Her best friend growing up was Charles,a massive glass deer with translucent flesh that protected her with his life. The two travelled far and wide in the unforgiving landscape for kate to take notes on the strange fungus, curious wildlife and uncharted landscapes of her hometown. In time she grew into a highly intelligent and adventurous teenager. She was a free spirit in this wild place. This was until one of Knaris lawmakers proposed a deal that endangered her safety in more ways than one, and not one person- including her mother- had the guts to oppose it. Seeing as kate was not old enough at the time to legally oppose this contract she instead fled the village and, as the age of seventeen, experienced her first real taste of the outside world.

Kate moved to Cirital and enrolled in a university to study ancient religion. This was when her first tattoo, the large sunflower on her hip, was born. Study went fine for her but by the second year she found the material they covered to be too easy for her and boredom began to drive her mad. Her social life had also been a bit of a flop despite being very friendly by nature as Knari had given her the skills to befriend creatures but not people. This loneliness combined with her need for more and kate dropped out less than two years into her degree. At this point she began to seriously wonder who her father actually *was* and confronted her mother on the phone for an answer. While the information revealed was bizarre- a retired politician of all things- Kate still took it and ran. Eventually she found this mans home address and revealed to the very stunned older gentleman that she was his daughter. Thankfully he did not demand proof or even seem to mind, merely inviting her into his life. She was the eldest of his three other children after all. What was one more? At the age of 19 she had finally found a home.

Around this time however she was also becoming more aware of a high likelihood of breast cancer in her family and, after consulting several professionals, decided to get a double mastectomy to avoid any future issues. The scars from this would later be covered in her second largest tattoos- forget-me-nots tangling elegantly across her chest.

Seeing her directionless life Wright then explained that he was a private publisher and that he would be happy to publish a book on life in Knari. ‘It would be great to get some insider perspective from such a secretive little place.’ Kate agreed to this and was allowed to live in his spare room while she wrote. After two more years her book was finally published and earned enough to afford her an apartment in town, her first real home that she could own. It was tiny but it was nice and she even adopted a little grey cat to keep her company.

From here Kate became highly involved in a subject she had researched as a child- the old religion of the Solis deities. One year further into this research Wright agreed once again to publish the significantly heavier novel if she could finish it properly and edit it all down herself this time. At this time Wright also adopted a child, theo, who Kate became very fond of as his older sister. She began to spend more time looking after him fro Wright and the two got along very well. While one day she would love to return to Knari, the looming threat of battling an old contract kept her grounded in Cirital for now.
