Her parents were a Drow (father) and a Moon Elf (mother). Her father was not in the picture while she was growing up, deep in the hidden woodlands near the Borodin mountains. Her small community was about half artisans who specialized in wood carving and half tailors who created beautiful clothing. She was interested in neither of those and often found herself getting into trouble with tricks, pranks, and general foolery perpetrated against other elves. Despite her lackadaisical attitude toward most professional pursuits, though, she loved music and was taught the basics of fiddle by a wanderer, who gifted her an instrument he was not using. She improved her skill on her own and brought music to her people. A woodworking artisan constructed a beautiful violin in thanks.

Despite having a home in the forest, she felt she had upset too many elves there with her chaotic antics. As she grew older she became slightly more reserved, but she was unable to resist mischief. She also wanted to see beyond her generally humble upbringing and explore the world, never content to remain in one place for long. She imagined the different trees and plants she might find, the animals she would observe and the climates she would discover. Her attachment to almost all personal possessions is weak, save her violin and a locket, as they interfere with her strong belief in the importance of preserving and revering nature. She left home at around age 55, while still considered an untried youngster.

Shortly after leaving home, thinking she might become a wandering bard, Mags met a simply dressed being in the forest. At first, she took him for a fool, and her desire to play tricks on him was irresistible. However, she quickly learned that she was misguided when he took delight in her games and revealed himself as the Archfey Hyrsam. After trying to trick and test her in return with regard to her survival skills and musical ability, he judged her worthy and she swore a pact to him to become a warlock and protect the wild--and perhaps assist him with his anarchist aims in keeping the Feywild pure. Mags reveled in the idea of magic, having spent a life so distant from it that she thought she would never perform it. He also presented her with a grimoire made of natural materials that she was entrusted to keep safe.

Mags had a deep but physically distant relationship with a tiefling druid named Araza early on in her wanderings. They would meet whenever she passed through Honey Vein. Their shared bond over their love of nature was strong, and Mags found herself turning to Azara when the world got too complicated with the squabbles of sentient humanoids. Araza understood that Mags needed her space, and Mags understood that their relationship was doomed to end with Araza’s death long before her own. The music she composed after her girlfriend died is hauntingly beautiful. She currently does not maintain any committed romantic relationships, instead preferring trysts and entanglements of fleeting nature.

There have been several instances where, at the behest of her patron, she has used music to lure unsuspecting, disrespectful, travelers into other realms, kind of a “Pied Piper” effect. This is why she was bestowed “Beguiling Influence” by Hyrsam.

In addition to cataloging spells in her grimoire, she also records detailed notes of each part of the world she visits, its natural features, flora, and fauna, as well as any natural history she can uncover. To further her research she has been given the invocation “Eyes of the Runekeeper” to be able to read all written language. Though they can be used in battle, she also uses “Aspect of the Moon” and “One with Shadows” to observe at odd hours and without being detected by animals or travelers. In general, Mags believes in leaving nature undisturbed. She does not interfere in her research, and as a result has no interest in speaking to wild animals through magic or otherwise interacting directly with them.

She prefers not to fight but will do what she must to protect herself or the people she cares about/is beholden to. She considers few as friends, as most do not have time for her wandering ways, or are on quests of their own. She has joined adventuring parties in the past, but nothing stuck for longer than a year or two, with her eventually wanting to go off to some deserted area to study nature.

Mags enjoys body modification and has cheek dimple piercings, a bridge piercing, and various tattoos for decoration. However, she also has a rare Barrier Tattoo that she received in order to forgo the wearing of armor. It is specifically the tattoo on her forehead. She has no interest in looking like a fighter or carrying extra gear, so the protection is perfect for her. To continue the theme, her light crossbow is her only visible weapon, which she mostly uses to hunt. She also carries a Needle of Mending, which was a gift from Araza after Mags expressed that she was worried both about the carrying of weapons as well as the potential that her violin would be damaged in her travels. She carries it pinned through a leather bracer on her wrist. Her locket is not a magical item (simply a lover’s token), though she has convinced others that it is Master’s Amulet and she would be protected if they attacked her.

Her only concession to her decision not to interfere with animals or creatures is her recent companionship with a snowy owl/leopard griffin named Narak. She is currently headed toward Deadman Tower for research, and, just as she came across the first bad snowstorm in her travels in the northeast, she encountered the creature when he was injured. So stunned by his beauty, she was unable to resist breaking her vow against interference to assist him. Once she had sought assistance from a local group and the creature’s health was restored, he began to follow her, despite her repeated attempts to dissuade him. The locals informed her of the creature’s name and suggested she allow his companionship. At his insistence she allows him to aid her in her travels in the unforgiving lands. She considers their relationship at will, and if Narak ever wishes to be parted from her or remain in or return to his home she would allow him to leave immediately.
