While precious gems are aptly named, gemstones imbued with magical energy are even more rare to come by. By imbedding one of these special gems in one's body, a regular magic-less human is granted incredible power. It does come with a risk, however. By relying more and more on the gemstone's mana reserves, it slowly corrupts the body and mind manifesting in crystal growths until they become mad husks. This is known as a "crystal infection".

A scholar recently gone rogue from his academy affiliations, after he was caught prying into the dark truths of crystals that were used to give people the ability to use magic after embedding itself in their bodies. He is cold and intellectual, and holds high standards towards everyone including himself to the point where he would use himself as a guinea pig for his experiments because he never felt good enough. His research and academic records have been practically his entire life's work. While he has difficulty getting close to others due to his "boring" demeanor, he hopes that through his efforts trying to help others from the shadows would come through and give him the recognition he craves. Indeed; behind his poker face lies a deeply lonely heart, with roses manifesting from his crystal infection symbolic for a flower that wants to be adored despite their thorns. He does not hate people. In fact, the most he'd struggle with is explaining himself in a way that's understandable for others who aren't so nose-deep in literature as he. The reason why he wished to study further into these magical crystals, hailed as miracle-makers, was to determine whether or not the practice was ethical to begin with and hopefully find alternatives. He maintains his cold disposition as a means to remain strong in the face of the possible harm that would come to befall him, should he already share his findings of people actually having been using impure crystals as a means of maintaining a hierarchy in this crystal-dependent trade culture. He silently fights alone against "healers" that offer to deal with crystal infection for exuberant amounts of money, all the while attempting to create pure crystals of his own to introduce a balance.
