Noel was born in a poor area on the outskirts of downtown London to a struggling young professor and his high school sweetheart. The two often argued daily over money-related issues, and as the tension thickened, Noel's mother fell deep into alcoholism and violent, abusive behavior as a means of coping with her husband's constant string of failures. Despite him trying hard to make ends meet, his attempts to provide for her and their child were fruitless, and without the support of his wife, he began to slip into a steady depression. Being tired of the endless fighting and stress, and still dealing with the shock that the woman he thought was his true love was someone quite different than he imagined, his father left his mother shortly after he was born to pursue his career. This left Noel in the care of his alcoholic mother for a large portion childhood and teenage years.

Noel's relationship with his mother went from one extreme to the other, from neglect, to abuse, to neglect, to abuse over and over again. In order to avoid her during her bad times, the young boy quickly learned his way around the streets. However, without anyone to teach him right from wrong, he found himself picking up several habits and toxic behaviors. By age thirteen, he'd already picked up a smoking addiction and started drinking.

At almost fifteen years old, Noel was contacted again by his father, a man he hadn't heard from since his early childhood. He boasted of his accomplishments and personally invited his son to attend the prestigious international academy he founded with a small group of professors shortly after abandoning his past life with Noel and his mother. There was a bitter side of Noel that wanted very badly to refuse the man's offer, but there was a deeper, lonlier side of him that pushed him to say yes. He wanted to make his father proud enough to take him back and love him again.

His life didn't change a lot from there. For reasons unknown to him, his 'father' refused to take him in, so he continued to live at his mother's house. The only things that changed were longer commute times and a new set of peers that didn't understand him. His bad habits stubbornly continued, leading to the man he once referred to as his father calling him a disgrace and threatening to expel him on several accounts unless he changed his behavior. It was too hard.

After he struggled through school, things began to look up for him. He met a few friends that he truly felt a connection with and began to break away from some of the more destructive traits he'd picked up as an adolescent. Within this group was Dia, and to an extent, Chase, and even Salvatore. Shortly after graduation, he met his first boyfriend, an older tattoo artist named Liam.

Liam and Noel's relationship was very problematic. The two of them appeared to be a happy couple on the outside, but Liam's behavior towards those closest to him quickly became unbearable to Noel. He was a controlling, selfish, and demanding person. Still being unclear on what what made a relationship healthy versus unhealthy, Noel repeatedly tried to justify Liam's behavior and downplay his own discomfort. Liam's sadistic tendencies grew stronger, and Noel turned to self harm for the first time in years. There was a point during their relationship where he felt that he no longer minded if he accidentally cut too deep.

That was, until he managed to do it.

It was during a heated argument with Liam, and he locked himself in the bathroom to escape. He couldn't stop the bleeding. In a panic, he reached for his phone and called the first person in his list of contacts that he knew would answer. He passed out in the empty bathtub, and awoke in an empty hospital room; but he wasn't alone. The person who entered the room a few moments later was none other than the man who had looked him straight in the eye and called him a disgrace.

They talked, he apologized, and his shattered heart got its first stitch. The two of them lived together for a short period of time while Noel got back on his feet. Then, he left. One of the habits he'd held onto was his inability to stay in one place for too long.
