When life gets too difficult, or her schoolwork and professors become too demanding, Nyx blames her childhood for the way she copes with the tension. Xanthe, a village known for friendly neighbors and hospitality, never felt like home to Nyx- her family was a proud sort, never taking handouts or accepting assistance even when it would have been a relief to have. Even despite the town's genuine concern for the young girl and her family, no matter how empty their bellies were, or how cold their unheated house was in the winter, the family remained resolute in their desire to handle things on their own. Such ideals, as assumed, only led to even more discomfort and distress amongst the home's inhabitants. From a very young age, Nyx had learned to take life's challenges in baby steps, doing her best to be her mother's last worry and her father's pride. Despite her best efforts though, nothing Nyx did ever seem to suffice- she could have always tried harder or paid attention a bit more. Sometimes, she went to bed, lulled by the peace and quiet, and other nights she fell asleep to the sound of her parents arguing. Sometimes, there would be a feast for her after school and other times there was barely anything to ration. Looking back on it, Nyx feels as if the tune of her days were decided by a wheel of fortune, that just so happened to normally land on the most unfortunate of tiles.

When home life became too much for her parents to handle, they resorted to spending their weekends away from home, partying at the many clubs littering Whitelight Shores and hanging with the rich and famous in Azmarin. Nyx, despite wishing her parents would take responsibility for their misfortunes longed for the weekends her parents were gone, the house finally peaceful and devoid of any negativity. She would spend those moments romping around with Ingrid, the bathhouse owner's daughter, playing tag and causing mayhem around the village. Though their neighbors didn't appreciate the chaos, they were thankful Nyx had a semblance of a social life outside of her terrible upbringing. They were even more thankful when Nyx graduated from school and immediately began making plans to move away and start anew, despite her parent's disgust. Tired of trying to please her parents, Nyx applied to Acadia University, one of the most prestigious universities in Etharia.

Moving to Firefly Valley was just what Nyx needed, immediately finding her footing at Acadia and forming lifelong friendships with those around her. Her life seemed to have been getting better, though she realized just how demanding and difficult college work and classes could be. She began partying on the weekends with her friends, just as her parents had done during her childhood, hoping to forget her stresses and prolong the inevitable for as long as she possibly could. At present, Nyx still has a hard time putting her schoolwork first, despite knowing deep down that she cannot hide from discomfort forever. Luckily, she has surrounded herself with amazing friends who can help get her back on track when she seems to be close to derailing.
