Arathorn struggles to control his powers as he doesn't want to hurt anyone but they demand to be used. The castle is high on a windy cliff and he doesn't understand why, when wind surrounds him, he struggles so much to work with it. He almost refused to get married, but it was how his parents had been married and it was a way he felt closer to them. His heart was lost to Sonatina the moment he saw her. He had been idly flipping thorugh the sketches provided by the merfolk, for they wouldn't meet until the wedding day, and he just stopped and stared. His attendant noticed the change and gave him a small smile, then took the cards and let the merfolk liason know which bride Arathorn had chosen

Arathorn had been incredibly nervous the day of the wedding, but when his lips touched hers at the end of the ceremony he had a very hard time pulling away. After the ceremony he wasn't sure how to get to know his wife, as she didn't really seem happy and he was afraid to pursue his feelings for her. He was certain the wind would get out of control and she would be hurt somehow. It wasn't until she was kidnapped for ransom by a local irritating, but usually harmless, mercenary that he let his emotions go and went to rescue her. Turns out she didn't need as much rescuing as he thought but she seemed to soften towards him after that. And she was even able to help him calm the winds so they were easier to manage. But he still didn't want to risk getting closer to her, he loved her too much to risk her safety.

Arathorn's parents died when he was young and the former Dark Lord(not Queran, the current Dark Lord) had planted an agent among the advisors which meant that young Lord Arathorn was raised without being told about his heritage or his inherited powers. He was never left wanting and was cared for very well by the palace staff but only a few people knew the secrets of the powers of Arathorn's family and the Dark Lord was looking to expand his kingdom by trying to get rid of the bloodline's ability to use their powers.

The Dark Lord was not aware that the reason they were blessed was because of a lanizilla that lived within the cliffs of the castle. This laniling is an ancesstress of the family decided to stay and protect. She may leave for small bits of time to travel but she stays nearby in case her family needs her. Unfortunately all these events happened while the laniling was looking for her brother, who happened to be trapped at the castle by the Dark Lord's agents and his powers bound, so when she came back she realized she needed to wait until she could form a connection to the boy who knew nothing about the truth of his heritage. Thankfully her brother stayed on as Arathorn's personal attendant so she knew he would be safe.

Since wind is a difficult element to control and for the sake of alliances a mermaid or merman from the tribe that lives near the cliffs where the castle stands is betrothed to the young heir. A selection of eligible young people is presented from multiple different families, so as so prevent inbreeding, and either the young heir or the parents may choose the future spouse on the heir's 18th birthday. This was the only saving grace the lanilizilla could think of, as the merfolk knew the history of the land and could help the heir and get him to the lanizilla. The lanizilla couldn't risk being caught, for if her powers were bound then Arathorn would truly be doomed.
