Firren is a constant presence in Marie's cafe during the school year- once he gets out of school, he will most often stop in to visit her and do homework in the calm atmosphere of the small space. Marie will often chat to him about plants as she works, and sometimes help him with homework when he gets stuck.
Through Firren, Marie has also befriended his father Silas, who is closer to her own age. His own work keeps Silas from visiting the cafe as often as Firren does, but he will often exchange words with Marie when arriving to pick his son up- and frequently invites her to dinner with himself and his sons, an invitation she eagerly takes him up on.
Marie has every confidence in Haniah's ability as a baker and pastry chef- for this, she is immensely grateful that she hired the young lady. Haniah's customer service skills, however, could use a bit of work- she is prone to disagreements with customers, and specifically likes to antagonize the young bagel shop owner from down the street. Marie overall trusts Haniah, but does have to step in to mediate conflicts on her behalf sometimes.
