Everglade

Everglade was the queen of the Mudwings and the sister of Bog.  Everglade and Bog had two older sisters who both challenged their mother for the throne, but failed.  Everglade was the last sister to challenge for the throne and succeeded.  

When her brother Bog fell in love with the Sandwing princess Scorpion, Everglade was not pleased.  She did not like that the Mudwing royal line would have Sandwing blood mixed into it.  However, because she loved her brother, she did not try to stop him from leaving with Scorpion.

When Everglade heard that Bog was killed by an assassin, she was greatly saddened and raced to the scene immediately.  She ordered that both Bog's and Scorpion's bodies be brought back to the palace for burial.  Before leaving, she found their egg hidden in the sand.  Out of love for her brother, Everglade decided to raise their dragonet as her own.  The egg hatched months later and she named her Mesa, picking one of the names she found in Scorpion's journal.

Everglade loved Mesa greatly, despite her mixed blood.  She also kept Mesa's identity a secret, because she had come to suspect that Saguaro was likely the one who hired the assassin. 

A few years past, and Everglade became aware that her niece Mire (Mesa's half sister) was planning on challenging her for the throne.  Because Everglade knew that Mire would likely win (Mire was the big wings of her siblings and Everglade was getting older), she made preparations for Mesa to go to Jade Mountain.  Mire killed Everglade in the challenge and Mesa left for Jade Mountain.
