ASTRONOMER TURNED ROGUE

neb started out as a royal scientist, and their division was alchemy regarding the stars. they began at a relatively young age in a pretty low rank, but performed amazingly (haha stellar) and ended up moving up in positions relatively quickly due to their talent. unfortunately, at one point as a rebellious teen attending a dumb mandatory royal meetup, neb decided to leave the party early and tamper with some alchemy stuff. they misused the lab-provided and constructed wormholes (like a space pocket dimension!) that normally allowed them to record scientific data about star hearts that would normally be out of reach, and picked it up. touching the star hearts were normally outlawed and forbidden due to their volatile nature, but neb (on impulse) looked through it with their eyes up close, and saw that the constellations and chemical elements (+ tons of other info thats gets kind of incomprehensible and overwhelming) were more visible and evident. they had put in eye/closer to see better/more but then it gets absorbed (magnet-like pull, the thrall) and oh fuck wrow

after that incident, the wormhole began to collapse due to the lack of gravitational pull from the star, and neb panicked and hit the break button. some stuff in the lab got knocked around and the alarms went off, abruptly interrupting the royal party. in an attempt to cover up what happened and stuff, neb ran away and made their escape outside the royal city's walls. as of now they're wandering the rest of the country doing freelance work as some kind of potion-maker, but they really want to get with other scientists that were like them, and help take back the corrupt royalty.
