Character outline:

  • Dark brown/purple hair, brown eyes, mole above the lip
  • Raised by her sickly mother until her death, when Jiei turned 8
  • Weary around strangers, especially those who approach her or try to interact with her
  • Has trust issues thanks to the superstitious villagers giving her and her mother grief as a child
    • A part of her deep down inside wonders if what they say about her is true if her bad luck as the black wolf ate her mother’s health away; believes less on the superstitions but believes the stress of pregnancy and the complicated delivery left a toll on her mother’s body, and in a way is the cause for her mother’s poor health
  • She tried to take on as many responsibilities, looking for any means of making money in town, while taking care of her mother. She managed to invoke enough pity that a passing martial artist stopped by their hut in the woods to help out with the more physically laboring chores during his time in town. That same martial artist took the time to teach Jiei some martial arts in between breaks.
  • After her mother died, Jiei traveled across China to Japan using the few possessions her mother had to find anyone related to the name Amagumo
  • On the road, Jiei realizes there’s certain leniencies when thought to be either a girl or boy; Finds it easier to live life pretending to be a male than dealing with the societal limitations of being a woman
  • Made some money doing a few odd jobs and playing her mother’s shamisen, which she eventually had to sell
  • She finally found the Amagumo compound at age 11. The wife of the head of the Amagumo family used to be friends with her mother, who also encouraged her to marry the current head of the Amagumo. They happily took Jiei in, giving her a home and work as an apprentice.
  • The Amagumo family were one of the biggest manufacturers of iron and steel in Japan at the time, and were currently investing into manufacturing automobiles. As an apprentice, Jiei learned the trade.
  • She eventually met Asari Ugetsu, who would eventually introduce her to Giotto and the Vongola. The Amagumo family were indebted to Asari Ugetsu’s parents so they wished for her to follow Asari Ugetsu when he followed Giotto back to Italy. It was in Italy, while accompanying Asari Ugetsu, that she met the rest of Primo’s Guardians and Elena.
  • During her time with the Vongola she encountered Talbot, who sparked her interest in metal and technology. She also developed a taste for coffee during her time in Italy.
  • As soon as Primo announced his retirement, she left the Vongola without telling anyone. During her time away, she discovered that her mother’s sister had died and left her son orphaned. Jiei decided to adopt her young cousin, making him her apprentice and successor of her work. She intended to live out the rest of her life back home with the Amagumo family without any further contact with the Vongola, but was caught off guard from a surprise visit from Giotto himself, informing her that he planned on spending his retirement in Japan. She expected her old friend, Primo’s Rain Guardian, Asari Ugetsu, to visit, but over the years since Giotto’s retirement, she’d even get visits from Alaude, who originally came to Japan to visit Giotto. There was even a time that both Alaude and Asari Ugetsu came over with Giotto at the Amagumo compound. A visit that resulted in a rumor that the child Jiei adopted is actually her own child and the father was one of them. Which led to everyone involved, including said child, to an ongoing joke amongst them.
  • Eventually Jiei retired, making sure her cousin was finally ready for taking over the entire Amagumo business before she spent the rest of her life traveling the world.

Personality:

Relationships:

  • Family:
    • Nozomi:
By the time Nozomi realized she was pregnant, she was already on the road with her traveling troupe of performers. Nozomi made the decision to keep her pregnancy a secret from the troupe, only informing her closest friends of her plans before leaving. She planned on traveling back to her lover at his family’s estate, but once she reached his hometown, she found out he moved to his fiance’s family estates instead for their upcoming marriage. Too late in her pregnancy to travel anymore, she hid away at a remote cabin just outside the town, using her savings to hire a few servants. The entire pregnancy took a toll on her body and the delivery was difficult, but her daughter was born completely healthy.
Rumors about her child started to circulate around the town. That the child’s birth brought the devastating storm that destroyed their crops and homes and brought the oncoming plague that followed days after. The strong winds of that particular storm sounded like a pack of howling wolves and felt similar to getting clawed by one. The days leading to the birth were also dark, with heavy clouds blocking the sun in the day and the moon at night. The sensations of the winds and the dark, cloudy days leading to her birth gave the infant Jiei the nickname of Black Wolf among the townsfolk.
Regardless of the rumors, Nozomi loved her daughter, naming her with the characters read in Japanese meaning ‘merciful’ and ‘honorable’ separately, but together meaning ‘charitable,’ with the hopes that Jiei grows up to be selfless and kind, especially those of similar or even less fortunate positions than herself. Nozomi spent the rest of her life raising her daughter with as much love as she could give, often praying to the moon to be given more time to spend with her or wishing that Jiei would live a good, healthy life even when she could no longer look after her daughter. She made sure Jiei could read, write, and speak in Mandarin and Japanese, the value of money, bargaining, and other life skills.
    • Láng Yin:
    • Half brother:
It wasn’t until her later years that Jiei made contact with her half brother. Their interactions weren’t the warmest at first, but the Yu Yun patriarch tried his best to please his older sibling, especially after hearing of her accomplishments and the story of her childhood. Jiei would often antagonize him, often scolding his passive, meek behavior and forcing him to change his business practices. While he’d still act meek toward her, he noticed her strict teachings had proven to be very beneficial for his clan’s finances and boost their reputation, all of which convinced him that Jiei, while may have complicated feelings toward their father and the rest of the Yu Yun, means only good intentions for them and wishes to help them thrive rather than drive them to ruin. She even helped introduce his clan to the Vongola, even mediating between them as they discussed an alliance.
    • Unnamed cousin/adopted son:
Jiei’s only living family from her mother’s side. She adopted him after finding out he has no other living family after his mom passed away. She treated her cousin like her apprentice, taking care of him and making sure he had an education. While Jiei felt awkward raising her cousin, she tried her best to emulate her mother and taught him the life lessons her mother imparted onto her.
  • Allies:
    • Amagumo Family:
    • Amagumo Guild:
    • Asari Ugetsu:
Something like childhood friends, they often played together as kids and bonded over music.
    • Talbot
Jiei would frequent Talbot’s shop admiring his metalwork and tried to ask how each one was made. It's assumed that their relationship is a positive one since, while Talbot always kept tight lipped on his crafting skills, he’d gift Jiei some of his works and even offer advice whenever her work was in a slump. He is also one of the few people who Jiei admitted her true gender to, although he already had his suspicions.
    • Alaude
