Rin Haganame (wip)

| Personality |

Rin is very blunt, showing her lack of interest or belief in things rather openly, but also translates to her lack in fear to make jokes or tease others, or even point out where they lack. She relies on observing more than acting, typically rather quiet and blank faced around others she doesn't quite trust or know yet. This can often come off as a cold nature but she is actually a very caring and emotional person. She doesn't have the very high confidence in herself and tends to hold back in speaking up, but overcomes this with time.

Early Life

Born to a small family in the inner districts of the Rukongai, she shared her childhood with her twin brother. He was frail and often left bedridden where she and her grandparents would try to aid him or keep him company. They couldn't afford the ability to seek full treatment and instead relied on small doses of medicine to keep him going, the money coming from their parents who worked most of the time. She kept a brave face for her brother, being fully aware he wouldn't live very long without proper medical attention. As a teen she went to the academy, hoping to make enough money as a Soul Reaper to get him the treatment he needed before it was too late.

As a first year, she often visited home and told him of everything she learned, the things she saw each day. In her free time on the academy grounds, the tranquil area beneath a weeping willow tree was her solace and favorite place to read. This is where she first encountered Shunsui Kyoraku. He sat on the opposite side and they slowly began to converse. While never fully looking at each other, it began with simple comments, rants, things you wouldn't tell a friend but would divulge to a stranger. They told each other everything about their personal lives, destressed to one another without even knowing the name belonging to the ears lent their way. It wasn't until Shunsui's last year at the academy that he finally asked. They became very close friends from that point on, closer than friends some may say. They would go on to have intimate moments here and there, even so much as acknowledging love between the two but believing it best to be put aside. While in the Academy she was often seen as hot headed and stubborn but strong, the complete opposite to the quiet and vulnerable self she showed to Shunsui.

As a soul reaper, Rin was admitted into squad 1 as a seated officer, mainly to be watched by the head captain since he labelled her a bit of a problem child. She was overly reliant on her zanpakuto skills and took too long to make sound decisions, but also lacking true confidence in the actions she takes. Yamamoto made a point to help her hone in on these things and learn to control it to avoid mishaps. While in squad one she creates ties with Kirinji through Unohana and Yamamoto in order to heal her brother since even normal healing and medicine was deemed worthless to his state.

Rin stayed within their ranks for some time before moving to squad 5 which was better suited to her. She held a high rank there for some time, making it her home, before taking a team of officers, ones she ate dinner with, laughed with, and led them into their demise on an unfortunate mission where she used her zanpakutos power to kill an extremely large number of hollows but took the team with them. She had used a bankai ability called mercury rain which created a downpour of mercury and destroyed/poisoned everything beneath it, one not suited for crowded spaces. It had to be used to deem a successful mission but at the cost of her friends' lives, something she will remember to her grave and sees as a failure in her leadership.

After this event, she was praised for keeping the hollows out and prioritizing the soul society's protection, but inwardly scorned herself. Shunsui told her to transfer to the 8th division with him to be the third seat, Rin refusing any position higher than third. He was worried about her well being and wanted to be close by if she needed any help. From there she would sharpen her hand to hand combat skills and avoid using her zanpakuto as much as possible.

In order to take a break from normal duty, pushed by Shunsui, she would sometimes go to the academy and teach some classes on the hand to hand combat, one of which had Shinji Hirako.

Seitenrui | Oath of Heavens Tears 誓天涙 - Her zanpakuto's released form changes the blade to a solid teal silver sheen, the material of it becoming mercury. Rin is able to control the change of state that the blade is in, ranging from liquid, to solid, to gas forms. She avoids using its gas form when allies are nearby, as it will cause insanity if inhaled. She can manipulate its solid form on command, some examples being the katana form, a shield/barrier, and a prison/binding form. The liquid form is used in various ways as well, however the main opportunity is when she stabs someone. It actually only makes a small incision on the skin, enough to become liquid and enter the blood stream. As the blade seems to go deeper into the person and look as though they were stabbed, it is actually the mercury entering their body and poisoning them. As a shikai, the amount of mercury is limited.

Yuudoku Seitenrui | Toxic Oath of Heavens Tears 有毒誓天涙 -  In its Bankai state, her sword becomes 4 floating crystal esque shapes made from mercury that she can command with her hand. Anything her mercury touches, she’s able to manipulate the state of matter, mainly liquid, solid, and gas forms. She can only use the plasma state when she fuses the mercury with her body. Her strongest attack in this form is combining gas and dust to form the plasma state of a small star, to which she can make go into a supernova state. 

Relationships | 

Shinji Hirako 

They first met when Rin had come by to teach a class and look for any promising students at the academy. Later he would seek her out once amongst the court guard squads, taking any chance or excuse to go to the eighth division she was residing in. They became close friends and would often sit outside under the moon together and talk, joke around, offer advice, confide, or even just to enjoy each others company. This was usually filled with pining for one another, and sometimes jealousy. He was aware of the past relationship held between her and Shunsui, thus holding back on serious advances. She saw his flirting with other girls but turned a blind eye as if it didn't affect her. 

When together and feelings out in the open, they still act the same, but Shinji is much more physical with his affection and territorial over her. Rin always refers to people she cares about by their first names, adding to the familiarity and aloof nature she really has, and Shinji loved hearing her call his name. But when she wanted to tease him, she would use Hirako instead. She often pokes fun and they wrestle sometimes during harmless arguments but is overall very loving and genuine with him in every sense.

When they're reunited there's a bit of a wall they have to overcome from not seeing each other in so long. Rin had set aside her feelings when the vizards first left the soul society, staying behind to keep an eye on Sosuke. When she joined the world of the living 50 or so years later she actively avoided them to keep the soul society's, and Sosuke's eyes off of them, thinking it best to let him move on. Shinji on the other hand is a tad distant BECAUSE she never sought them out and felt like she wanted nothing to do with them anymore, especially after he gave her a large scar on her back in his hollow form. (She had initially helped fight them all off while they took control of their hollow forms, before officially saying goodbye) It's an awkward phase at first when she goes to fetch Orihime from their hideout, but a long talk later that night with them all pushes that aside for the most part. 

Vizards 

She has decent established relationships with the other Vizards, the main ones being Lisa, Love, Rose, and Kensei. Her worst relationship is probably with Hiyori who thinks Rin looks down on her. In turn Rin thinks hiyori acts too rash and childish, making her an easy target for getting hurt. Lisa is her old squad mate and the two often joke around together, acting like sisters more than anything. With Rose, she was one of the people to recommend him for captains position.

Shunsui Kyoraku 

Long history of romantic encounters. Share an understanding of each other on a deeper level. wip

Sosuke Aizen 

He reminded her of her younger brother, but in a situation opposite him. Where her brother was too weak to be his true self around others, Sosuke was too strong. She often treated him as such and would hint that shes aware of how strong he is, offering to lend an ear if he ever needed it. The way he looks at her is complicated and though he dislikes the sympathetic look in her eyes, he also feels drawn to it. This doesnt change the fact that he heavily manipulates her and convinces her that she was at fault for the events that occurred, creating the more quiet and distant nature she ends up having during the main events of the story. 

Ichigo Kurosaki 

Calls him Ichigo and keeps an eye on him, having known his parents. Keeps a barrier up when they first meet at Uraharas shop, barely even saying a word. But she helps train him and it's the first time he hears her call him by his first name. At some point remembers that he had met her before when he was a kid (a chance encounter where he fell into the river and she got him out and scolded him). He looks at her as a big sister figure for the most part. At the time of Misaki’s death, she was the one to find them and get Ichigo and her back to Isshin before anyone else found them. 

Gin Ichimaru

During the early days of his soul reaper career, she confronted the young boy about his motives. 

Coyote Starrk 

During the days leading up to the war, Sosuke sends his strongest, yet least threatening espada to converse with Rin. He basically acts as the messenger between the two, Sosuke probing for her to join him again and abandon the soul reapers. Amidst these few visits, she instead just gets to know the primera espada.
