About
Lionel is a cat trapped in a position he really, really did not ask for. In the wake of his father's untimely assassination, Lionel ascended his throne as High Lord of the Oakarch Court immediately, being the older of the deceased Lord's two children. Though he is an intelligent young cat with a certain knack for politics, Lionel has no interest in heading the Court- at least, not as it is right now. The common practice of turning to murder as a way to eliminate rivals or 'solve' disagreements unnerves him, and he frequently finds himself torn between a desire to improve upon what he has been left- whether he asked for it or not- and a desire to turn the whole thing upside down and shake it to the ground. Right now, though, Lionel's primary concern is finding out who killed his father, and why- and he can't help but feel like the clock may be ticking for him, now, as well.

Personality
It wasn't that Lionel wasn't smart- in fact, muttered the disgruntled nobles upon the young lord's ascension, he was possibly one of the most intelligent members of the Court. Lionel has always had a way with others, an ability to see through their smiles and flowery words to the heart of what they wanted from him. Understanding the motives and means of others comes naturally to Lionel- a useful trait to have in the Court, where most everyone had ulterior motives of one sort or another.
But while understanding others is easy for Lionel, understanding himself and his own path is less so. Though gifted, such that he could do very well in the Court if he applied himself... he's not sure he wants to. He has come to regard the formalities of the Court with a flippant, bordering on derisive, attitude, earning him the ire of many of the Court's other residents.
Lionel's tendency for bluntness is also among his less endearing qualities- where many others will dance around their points and approach arguments sideways, Lionel doesn't hesitate to state his perspective or confront others, which is both unusual and unwelcome to the other nobles. Around those he feels he can trust, however, Lionel allows this bluntness to melt slightly, softening into a still frank, but overall less harsh, demeanor. He is at heart a decent cat, and undeniably intelligent one, but the stress of inheriting his father's unwanted rank and the knowledge of the target on his back has worn on Lionel, allowing his bitter side and more unpleasant attributes to show through.

As the new High Lord of the Oakarch Court, one would expect Lionel to be well-groomed. And, for the most part, this young cat does place value in being well put together- although this stems more from personal preference than a desire to impress or earn the approval of anyone, having long accepted that he will never be able to fully satisfy the courtiers.
Despite his lofty position, Lionel prefers only light adornments- a simple cloak with a lightly bejeweled clasp, maybe, or a few simple bracelets. Before ascending to the lordship, he wasn't a fan of spotlight, and still retains this- though now it is considerably harder for him to fade into the background.
As he's gotten deeper and deeper into his investigations of the plot surrounding his father's death, Lionel has become increasingly disheveled- rolling out of bed with his cloak from the day before still on (and decidedly more rumpld); selecting cuffs with mismatching colors, and small things along those lines that serve to draw the scorn and amusement alike of the courtiers.

Relationships
Caroline: sister
Lionel loves his younger sister dearly, and she is one of the few cats he can clearly say he trusts. Despite having come together to grieve after their father's death, however, Lionel has begun to worry for his sister- she always did have a wider ruthless streak than he did, and her desire for vengeance is... worrying to him.
Claire: friend
An old family friend, and now Lionel's investigative partner. Claire's genuine heart and clever mind have made her an undeniable asset to his search for the truth of the plots in the Court- although her fear of drawing negative attention has proved to be a hurdle and something of a frustration for Lionel (and herself).
Quinn: ally (?)
Lionel has always been mildly frightened of Quinn. Though she herself appears to be perfectly friendly, her reputation as the granddaughter of a particularly terrifying courtier (as well as the rumors that she aid in some of said terrifying grandmother's nefarious plots) make Lionel a bit nervous about their tentative alliance.
Fenwick: ally
Lionel was at first wary of the idea of asking this odd old cat for help in his and Claire's investigations. But Fenwick has proven to be an invaluable resource in their hunt for the truth... and maybe both parties have grown somewhat fond of each other as well...
