Fuuka Hanazawa

Fuuka is, for lack of a better word, romantic. And that’s not just in the lovey-dovey sense either -- she has lofty ideas of how the world should work that are both idyllic and unrealistic. Her ideals tend to focus on love and hedonism. Her dream is to have many a suitor to dote on her and cater to her every whim. She wants to be loved more than anything else, especially by someone who will let her indulge in life’s pleasures (such as frequenting the spa and buying an unsettling amount of bishoujo anime figures).

When things don’t go how she expect them to, she gets angry. Like really angry. One might even call her anger rage befitting of an oni. Since her expectations for other people are so high, her tantrums happen very frequently. She often regrets her actions after, especially if she hurts someone in the process (which is usually what happens). That being said, she doesn’t hold herself to nearly as high of standards as she does others. After all, isn’t she already perfect? Or at the very least, she’s undeniably desirable!

Even though she’s vain and egotistical, she’s still amicable. She loves socializing, though gravitates towards people she finds attractive (which is basically anyone), mostly because of her ulterior motives. But when she befriends someone, she’s loyal and compassionate… although she expects them to act the same. And thus, being the fickle, high-standards girl she is, Fuuka’s prone to driving people away. But since she’s always right in her mind, nobody has gotten through to to her that her expectations and ideals are unrealistic. Instead she continues to forge ahead brazenly and passionately, leaving a trail of of broken hearts behind her.

Fuuka Hanazawa was born a human in a rural village known as Nekoda. Her family ran the inn, which was a tourist destination due to the hot springs onsen joined with it. Fuuka was a very curious child, quick to press guests staying at their inn for stories of their travels. She had limited computer access during that time, since she lived somewhere so small and far away from everything.

As a child, Fuuka loved to read. She devoured books, and though she didn't particularly care for academics, did well in school because of how much she read (don't talk to her about math/science). She also loved to write, especially love poems. But unfortunately she had no one to write them to!

And then came Chikako Murasaki. She transferred to Fuuka's 7th grade class, and Fuuka was instantly smitten. Chikako was elegant and intelligent, yet also athletic and undeniably beautiful. Or rather, that's what Fuuka thought. She was quick to put Chikako on a pedestal because of how different she was from the rest of her peers.

However, Chikako rarely gave her the time of day. She was too busy with archery club and her friends (she was very popular). Yet that didn't deter Fuuka; instead, she left love letter after love letter on Chikako's desk, never once signing her name. After all, it's way more romantic that way! But when she overheard Chikako and her friends making fun of the letters, Fuuka's heart was shattered. Yet she couldn't bring herself to hate Chikako. No, instead she was sure it was crush's friends' faults for corrupting her, and thus Fuuka was going to make them pay.

That same evening, Fuuka tailed Chikako and her closest friend on their way home from archery club. As soon as the two went their separate ways, Fuuka cornered Chikako's friend and attempted to intimidate her. She ended up shoving her down the hill into the river running through their village. The girl landed on a rock wrong and gashed open her calf. Chikako witnessed this and, running down the bank to help her friend, said to Fuuka words she'll never forget: "You're a monster."

Something in Fuuka snapped. She joined the other girls in the river, but not to help either of them. Instead she picked up a rock and struck Chikako with it over and over and over again. When she stopped moving, Fuuka realized what she had done and fled.

Her vision ran read as she sprinted home. Only upon arriving at the inn did she notice she felt different. Stronger, faster, angrier. She looked in the mirror of her bedroom to see she had turned into a monster. An oni, to be more precise, with horns and fangs and claws. Unsure of what to do, given this town was full of only humans and also she had just probably murdered someone (spoiler: Chikako lived, but Fuuka to this day doesn't know that), she packed her belongings and left.

She traveled to the nearest big city, wherein she resided until reaching university age. Though her grades were exceptional, she often transferred schools due to "incidents" -- as in, episodes of uncontrollable rage that usually resulted in someone getting very hurt. Although other species were normal in this city, there were very, very few oni because they tended to stay away from people. But since Fuuka craved romantic interactions (her desire for love has only intensified since becoming an oni), she remained among the crowds. That being said, most people avoided her or scorned her because of who she was.

Her parents and the authorities never chased after her, though she was definitely traceable due to her schooling. But still desperate to get even further away, she decided to apply to Filii Deorum in hopes of getting accepted. And once she was accepted, she moved and only then began to thrive. And by thrive, I mean get really into anime. She's become a bit of an otaku, but as long as she can juggle reading an inane amount of manga with her studies, who are we to judge?

Fuuka is average height (5'6") with an athletic build. She's very keen on staying in shape, and her toned muscles show that. She has fair skin and wears a good amount of makeup. What's most noticeable is the wild amount of mascara and eyeliner around her deep blue eyes (the pupils of which are heart-shaped). She has naturally rosy cheeks, and wears pink lipstick. Her purple eyebrows match her purple hair, except she's shaped them to be bean-like in shape. Her right eyebrow has a cut in it because fashion.

Her hair is a lavender purple with a white streak going through it. It's very thick and her bangs are outgrown, so she ties them back. She also has a side-ponytail on her right side.

Since she's an oni, she has several features corresponding to that. She has two grayish-white horns coming out of her head, her canine teeth are fangs, and her hands have claws instead of nails.

Fuuka's fashion sense can be summarized as 'street style.' She likes to dress brightly but also stylishly. Her favorite outfit is a navy blue sweater tucked into some bleached denim shorts. She also wears crew socks most of the time, and her most-worn pair of shoes are leopard print platform sneakers. Wow! Fashion!
