Both Lance and Zedd manage the shop selling potions and providing other magical assistance for various purposes. This explains why Lance has more practical knowledge about magic, spells, curses and potions than most wizards his age. Being raised this way, Lance learned to be resourceful.

Romance

Lance became close friends with Carina Black (twin sister of Sirius Black) during his 5th year in Hogwarts. After he risked his life to save Carina during an attack in Hogsmeade, their friendship grew stronger as did their feelings for one another. In fear of rejection and losing Carina as a friend, he kept his feelings to himself. After Carina graduated, Carina left her family to avoid an unwanted marriage and live in France for two years without telling anyone where she is. After months of searching, Lance found her but didn't inform her of his presence. He followed her about in his animagus form (albino crow)

2 years later, Carina returned to London. Unable to contain their feelings, they eventually confessed to each other and became a couple.
