About

  An Arch Nightmare, at its core, is a member of a nightmare subspecies who displays incredible power compared to others of its kind. These phenomenons are so rare that only one Arch Nightmare will appear at a time within each subspecies. Arch Nightmares, when found, are treated practically as their own species altogether, as none other posses the raw power and capability to rule such as them.

  Empress is the current Arch of the Trick Daydream subspecies; a Nightmare that makes themselves look like a friendly dream only to uncover their true intentions at any moment. Trick Daydreams are categorized by their two distinct, contrasting forms, commonly referred to as Stable and Unstable.

  When stable, Empress is incredibly apathetic to what's happening around her, and will appear bored and disinterested a majority of the time. She'll never smile, and will speak in a monotonous tone of voice. When unstable, she could be best described as sadistic. Not only will she undergo noticeable changes in her physical appearance, but her previously bored expression will change to something far more maniacal. She'll display impulsive and destructive behaviors, and won't hesitate to kill with a smile on her face.

  Changes between forms are entirely unpredictable, and can last anywhere from mere minutes to days on end. Although Empress does have some control over when she switches, sometimes it will happen subconsciously when provoked. She is fully conscious of her actions no matter what form she's in, and memories are fully shared between her two forms.

NOTES

• Empress can only maintain one of her two forms at any given time. Attempting to sustain them both as separate entities would use up too much energy and could kill her.
• She is planned to act as an antagonist in a much larger story, that of which is still under development.
• The six tentacle-like limbs that spring from her back in unstable for appear to have minds of their own. Their tips are sharp, and they can change length to a certain extent.
• Empress' character was born from a dream I had back in April of 2020, and she's been a very dear character of mine ever since.
