AU where the Once-ler finds a rare breed of black truffula which he uses to produce a limited quantity of the now very-sought-after black thneed. This item pulls in even bigger revenue than it's original counterpart due to the stylish color. Consumed by greed the Once-ler slowly but surely turns into a monster, but this time quite literally. 

Follows the same canon as the Illumination movie up until the factory is built, not that many changes aside from the main color changing from green to black to reflect the success of the black thneed.

It is implied that Harpy would have turned into a large raven if things had continued.
