The Nucleus is a highly modified Purposed Organism with the intent of neuron and information transportation. The Nucleus, though resourse-intensive to create, proved to be far more efficient than sending messages by pearls, making long-distance communication between Iterators far less of a hassle. The only downside is that the Nucleus is one-of-a-kind, created during a time of continual deterioration for the Iterators, and giving one little creature so many messages to bounce around exposes them to a wide range of dangers.

Likes

  • RW_Saint_icon.pngInformation. All sorts. Any kind!
  • RW_Saint_icon.pngSlime Mold - their favorite food.
  • RW_Saint_icon.pngPearls.

Dislikes

  • RW_Outlaw_icon.pngCentipedes. Gross.
  • RW_Outlaw_icon.pngDeep water.
  • RW_Outlaw_icon.pngCherry Bombs. Loud and obnoxious.

Though not as nimble as The Rivulet, The Nucleus does have some degree of increased mobility alongside their anti-gravity field, and can run faster than the average Slugcat. Their body also emits a soft glow which allows them to navigate dark areas. At the cost of their increased mobility and high intelligence, The Nucleus lacks defense, and takes an additional .5 damage from any kind of attack, such as Lizard bites, Dropwig attacks, and other damaging creatures.

Despite being omnivorous, the only thing The Nucleus cannot eat are Centipedes. The Nucleus also cannot eat Neurons, and attempting to eat one will provide no food pips, and cause The Nucleus to briefly become incapacitated. The Nucleus also cannot store any objects in their stomach, but can have one non-neuron item locked in their anti-grav (not including stray items temporarily picked up) as an alternative.

Abilities

  • RW_Survivor_icon.pngAbility: Low, constant anti-gravity field. This allows them to transport up to 5 neurons at once, and makes their jumps more efficient. Sometimes rubble, spears, and small creatures can briefly be trapped in the low grav.
  • RW_Survivor_icon.pngAbility: Technological bypasses. With a wide array of information stored in their core, The Nucleus can bypass most Karma Gates without the need for Karma, and can access locked doors such as the ones leading to Iterator's cities.
  • RW_Survivor_icon.pngAbility: Information storage. The Nucleus can store information in their body's Core, and can read pearls on their own. They can store what they read for ease of transporation.

Design Notes

  • RW_Scholar_icon.pngBody almost appears semi-translucent, showing their inner core. Not translucent enough to show anything like their organs or skeleton.
  • RW_Scholar_icon.pngAntennae and tendrils are highly flexible, and do not need to be 100% accurate.
  • RW_Scholar_icon.pngTail is somewhat stiff and can only bend at the 'links.' The end frond is flexible like a brush.
  • RW_Scholar_icon.pngBody colors do not need to be 100% accurate and can range from red to soft pink.
  • RW_Scholar_icon.pngBody is glossier than the average slugcat's.

2.pngHistory

Though it is unknown who created The Nucleus or why they used so many resources to make such a complex Purposed Organism, The Nucleus has proved to be an incredibly reliable asset to any Iterator whose communications have gone dark. It is believed whichever Iterator created them may have used functional parts of themself, such as the parts that make up their core and tail. Whatever their original message was appears to be long gone, and now The Nucleus continues to wander between Iterators' cans, carrying whatever messages still need to be delivered.

The Nucleus has adapted fairly well to surviving in the wild, and given that their biology allows them to survive far longer than the typical slugcat, it is probable that this little messenger may outlive their creators, continuing to carry their messages even after their collapse.

Trivia

  • RW_Wanderer_icon.pngThe Nucleus has an affinity for the Sky Islands, spending quite a bit of time tapping into whatever stray signals they can get ahold of.
  • RW_Wanderer_icon.pngAlthough they do not have the typical Mark of Communication, The Nucleus is still capable of understanding Iterators, as well as the Ancient language, giving them the ability to read pearls and graffiti.
  • RW_Wanderer_icon.pngThey have befriended more than a few Yellow Lizards, and one particular group considers The Nucleus part of their 'pack.'
