Obedias is an incredibly skilled alchemist with a specific expertise (and obsession) with lapis lazuli. He's very upbeat and optimistic, incredibly friendly and likable, although the town he resides in doesn't quite care for the dangerous experiments he performs in his lab. One experiment in particular, studying Ender pearls and their reactions with lapis, caused a mutation that turned him into one.
