Heaven

Virgil served as the leader of the Court of Owls, known famously throughout Heaven as one of the most intelligent among them. Where they had fans, they also had enemies; other angels who yearned for the position that Virgil held. In an effort to dethrone the seraph, a group of angels snuck into the Chamber of the Owls, where dangerous artifacts and secrets were kept. From there, they released a vicious entity born from the union of Holy and Demonic Fire. Flames spread through the Chamber, burning important documents and destroying one-of-a-kind objects; Virgil was on the scene immediately. They successfully contained the entity, though not without receiving deep burns along one of the sides of their body. Thrones, as the keepers of Heaven’s grounds, surrounded the seraph soon after the flames died and brought them before their Father. Virgil assumed they were being brought forth to try to figure out what had happened, but upon stepping foot in the palace, they were met with scornful glares and biting words from their brothers and sisters. While they had been fighting the entity, the group of angels who had started the whole mess had planted evidence to make it appear that Virgil had been planning this as a way to weaken Heaven, and to hold advantage over all beings as the only one aware of all of Heaven’s secrets. They pleaded otherwise, seeking rationality from their Father, who had always entrusted in them with whatever was on His mind. But according to all the evidence, Virgil was guilty. They were stripped of their wings and cast down onto Earth.

Fallen

Virgil arrived on Earth utterly and completely destroyed. They knew of nothing else but their old home and were glued to the idea that this was all a mistake. That they were still very much an angel. They attempted many times to get back into contact with Heaven. They got mixed results from this. Some of their siblings held sympathy for them, and while they could not bring them back home, they tried to ease their struggles in other ways. Other angels had no sympathy at all; some would even attack the fallen angel if they were ever contacted. Despite all of this, they remained thinking that they were still an angel. Virgil spent thousands of years doing good deeds, using what powers they had left to heal and support humanity. But thousands of years of this damaging form of thinking started to get to them. They were convinced they needed to not just act like an angel, but look like one once more. On their next encounter with an angel, Virgil killed them. They did so not out of malicious intent, but on the idea that their sibling was giving themselves up so that they may return home. A selfless deed. After killing the angel, Virgil stripped them of their wings, then using magic to place their wings on their own back. They did this two more times, giving them back their three pairs of wings.

Modern Day

Around modern day, Virgil continues to appear as an angel to humans, eventually coming across a young woman who was trying to use a random summoning spell she had found. Her name is Lark, and she’s part of a five-people, self-proclaimed “cryptozoologist” team. She immediately introduces Virgil to the rest of the team⎼⎼ Ivy, Peyton, Jesse, and Axel⎼⎼ who seem very startled about an actual, real-life celestial being in front of them. Virgil forms an attachment to this odd-ball group, establishing themselves as their “angelic” guardian, seeing as they usually come across some pretty dangerous entities. Eventually, the team realises that their celestial friend is not the angel they appear to be. Through gentle pushes from their companions, Virgil finally comes to terms with their lost divinity.
