Let's be honest here...between Buttons and Malakai, Buttons is the main character here. /jk
Buttons is a creature called a quasit, but it looks a bit different than the standard version. It has a lamprey-like mouth and an almost feline figure, although its hind legs are shorter compared to its forelegs. Said forelegs are fused with its wings, but it can't fly very well with them. The wings are better for gliding rather than taking flight. Like all quasits, it has the ability to shapechange, primarily into bat, centipede, or toad-like shapes. It retains its creepy lamprey mouth in each form.
Buttons can understand others but does not talk. Whether its incapable or simply doesn't like to isn't known, but Malakai doesn't seem to think that point is important enough to investigate. Its hide is incredibly tough despite its smooth appearance, and it appears to be resistant to a wide range of damage. It is completely immune to poison, and using poison on it is more likely to guarantee getting mauled than anything else.
As stated in Malakai's profile, this quasit has a taste for buttons. It likes to chew and eat them, and doesn't seem to have any sort of preference. If you have a button, it will eat it. Its obsession causes a great deal of trouble for Malakai, as Buttons also has the ability to turn invisible for a few seconds, often scaring people in its attempt to snatch said items. Not to mention, it tends to naturally frighten people with weaker wills, which it takes great delight in. Terrorizing people can probably be considered its secondary hobby.
People try to pspspsps at Buttons but the only person that can successfully catch its attention with that noise is Malakai.
