"He used the shine brighter than the Sun itself. He was going to be the King, greater than even his father before him."
Apollo was born to King Sinag and Queen Ara, the rulers of the Realm of Day. He was their eldest son and second child. Ever since he was young, Apollo showed promising skills, intellect, and the qualities of a fine ruler. Though King Sinag was expected to rule for a longer time, he knew Apollo was more than qualified to become his successor for the throne. A vast majority of the kingdom and even those beyond it were surprised when King Sinag had announced his eldest son to be next in line as king so early, because they were aware that the king had two sons. Phoenix, however, never showed as much interest as his elder brother, often hanging around the palace scientists and venturing to the Realm of Night. Because of this, Apollo was Sinag's certain choice.
As a teenager, Apollo was quite reckless. He was close with his brother, often getting into him into trouble when they were much younger. Because he was more skilled than Phoenix in many aspects, he often got away with his schemes, leaving Phoenix to take the blame countless of times. Their sister, Sol, would also spoil him so. Even when he was caught red-handed in the middle of an escapade, she would speak up for him and let him get away with anything and everything. But as he grew up, he knew he had to become more serious and take on his responsibilities head-on. This was especially the case after his father had declared his inheritance of the throne.
The children of Sinag and Ara were still young when the curse came over the land. It was unexplainable at first; corpses coming back to life, entire bloodlines disappearing without certainty as to what was happening to them, among other things. Of course, their parents had to head into the action when all of this started. What Apollo was not counting on was their parents' deaths. After the incident, none of the phoenixes were the same. Sol and Phoenix had each other for comfort, but Apollo did his best to stand strongly and put on the face of a king. It was only after Sol's unforeseen death that he lost his mind. He ran out in a rage, mad enough to call out the cause of such grief, and was declared dead as well- another victim of the tragedy that befell the Realm of Day.
In the present, Phoenix was the first to find him and discover that he had not exactly died, but become one of the "reanimated corpses" that roamed the lands. Apollo's free-will was seemingly gone, but his consciousness remained. All the sinister sins he committed, he'd experienced with his own eyes. The only semblance of volition in him were expressed through the tears he shed as he stumbled along the now-tarnished lands he once called his home, killing those who were once his people, and going against his only remaining family.
Phoenix is Apollo's younger brother. He had no interest in taking the throne, which was why it was initially Apollo's fate to have been handed the role of ruler after his father. The two were very close, Apollo leading his brother into all sorts of mischief when they were younger. After he'd grown more mature, he took everything more seriously while Phoenix attended to other matters. Despite this, their bond never wavered. After the death of their parents, Phoenix spent more time in his sister's comfort while Apollo ran the kingdom. When Sol died as well, both he and Phoenix were at a loss. But he'd marched into a battle, determined to put an end to their turmoil. The result was tragic. Though Phoenix thought he'd lost the last remaining family he had, it hurt him more to see Apollo on the other side of the playing field. Now the two were driven so far apart, despite wanting nothing more but to be with each other again.
