Aimu

A member of the mer species, Aimu resides near the bottom of the waters as often as he possibly can. He believes he is hideously ugly and find his tail and general self unattractive, the only dull child to come after five beautiful brothers who are later taken by poachers for their scales, skin, haid, and eyes(teeth as well if the buyer requests).

Aimu and his brothers are all fairly close and his brother always watch out for him and make sure he's fed first, as Aimu has always been quick to get ill and needs to keep his strength up.

Losing his parents and then his brothers moons after, Aimu rarely ever leaves the water's floor in the corals where he used to sleep with his brothers. Keeping this up for weeks, Aimu's health quickly declines until a diver comes down to look at the sealife and discovers the depressed mer, persuading the other to come with him to his home until he's well again. Aimu is reluctant for about a week, the diver taking up a daily routine of visiting him three times a day until Aimu opens up a bit and agrees.

Living with the diver for a few months, Aimu becomes healthier than ever and grateful to the human, telling his troubles and concerns once well-aquainted.

This time is short-lived, however, when the diver's brother, a poacher, comes by and discovers Aimu, causing a violent fight to break out between kin. The diver manages to break away from the fight long enough to get Aimu and take him back to the waters, where they're seperated and Aimu is alone once more.

Aimu joins the main party a general year after these events when Tyrone discovers Aimu beached and bleeding prufusely, unable to recall how the wound came to be. Aimu follows the party through the water whenever he can and communicates through a type of echo-location morse code otherwise, Bowker able to pick up the sounds as far as a couple dozen miles from the source.
