Dear child, know that you come into the world due
to the help of a gentle current that will never tear you asunder.
You are born from the clashing of freshwater and salt
yet each time you look to the sky
you yearn for the touch of the clouds.

You may never feel the sea salt on your skin
or hear the call of gulls in the arid heat
of the parched land which you were born in.
However, the ravenous waves call you by name
and the birds above cry for your freedom.

You need but only listen;
listen, dear child, for you are made of two different elements.
But, you can only choose one, for one cannot occupy
such two contrasting spaces. So listen carefully,
child of the sea and sky, and learn what each means.
