About
Klaus is a quiet and academic soul. His mind is usually focused on other times and places and he spends hours of his day lost in the pages of a book. His favorite places include tea and coffee shops, bookstores, libraries, and museums. He also enjoys taking walks through the woods, lost in his own thoughts. He can be a bit of a know-it-all, but is a genuinely gentle person with a good heart. His pursuit of knowledge can make him seem distant but when he is in the moment, his every focus is on his friends and his lover, Jay. He is a bit insecure and shy and copes by acting aloof towards those he doesn't know well. He tends to get flustered and embarrassed easily but tries to maintain a calm facade. If you know him well, he is just as easily read as any of his books.
Appearance
Klaus is tall, but relatively slender with lean muscle and well-built legs. He has deep curious eyes, often with a faraway look to them. His hair is somewhat untidy, no matter how he attempt to tame it, and is often tied with ribbons or elastics. He is usually well-dressed and prefers dark or muted colored garments. He tends toward vintage blazers and trench coats. His aesthetic is very much Dark Academia with some nods to ancient Greece.

Backstory
Klaus was born to well-off parents. His mother was a lawyer and his father was a politician, both with very high expectations for their only child. He was raised strictly, with very little time to enjoy his childhood or experience the things an ordinary child would. As a result, he had very few friends throughout his childhood and teenage years because he was too busy struggling to live up to his parents' extremely high standards. He did exceptionally in school and was valedictorian of his class and graduated with highest of honors. He got into an excellent university, the one his mother attended, and did general studies for less than a year when he finally began to question his parents and his upbringing. Now that he was experiencing newfound freedom, he could see that there was more to the world than he had been allowed to see. He became incredibly angry about the control he was under and began to lash out at his family. He dropped out from his university and cut contact.
After a period of time spent traveling using money he had taken from his parents, he decided that it was a waste to swear off university forever. He got a part time job at a library and used the money to return to school, this time a more modest university. Living on his own was extremely difficult at first as he was used to having nannies and tutors and maids, but he slowly became accustomed. Through his employment and classes, he was able to make a group of close friends. Instead of reading exclusively for study, he began to read for pleasure and allowed himself to immerse fully into other times and places. He began to explore himself as well. He wanted to figure out a place for himself in the world, but found that nothing brought him more joy than spending his time nestled in a cozy chair in a dark corner of the library. Until he met Jay.

Oolong is a barista at the library cafe. One day Oolong went on break and struck up a conversation while led to the two becoming friends. He often gets Klaus out of his shell.
