Elphiem

Introduction

A self-proclaimed "magical scholar" trying his best to make friends. Truth be told, Elphiem doesn't remember his past at all. After waking up in a river by a small village with no memory of even his own name, he embarked on a quest to discover the truth of his own history. 

But there was little to be discovered. He had no friends, nor relatives, nor even enemies that he knew of. Just as he was about to resign himself to a lonely existence, he gained knowledge of an Oracle in a distant kingdom, who was rumored to be able to grant any wish.

Now the only problem is getting there... and winning the tournament that would grant him an audience with said Oracle.

Personality

A quiet reserved man of few words. When he does speak, he comes across as overly formal and polite, but somewhat earnest. Despite his stuffy appearance, he does not care about the law and does whatever the heck he wants, especially if he is trying to help someone else. He'd go out of his way to help others in the name of making friends. 

As a scholar, he claims to seek knowledge above all else, but really he just craves companionship. After living for close to a decade without a soul he could connect to, the loneliness in his heart has led him to become withdrawn and secretive. He never shares much about himself, unwilling to burden others with his own problems. Not that he has much to share anyway, he figures.

A streak of darkness creeps just beneath his calm composure: a hint of a desire to inflict great suffering upon those who have wronged him. But whom this resentment is truly directed towards he cannot recall an answer to.

Trivia

• After waking up in the river, Elphiem was picked up by a kindly old man who happened to run the post office in the village. Since he did not have any possessions either, he eked out a living as a scribe at the post office. Soon, he discovered that he had an unnaturally strong affinity towards magic. He began to go from place to place, offering his magical services, which ranged from being a test subject for other magical scholars, to performing magic tricks at birthday parties. He also gained a bit of a reputation as a folk hero in some small villages for helping to eliminate the monsters that plagued them. He spent most of his earnings on old books and scrolls to learn more magic on the side.
• He picked the name "Elphiem" for himself from an old translated Elven text. 
• His hobbies include developing new spells, trying to decipher old texts and writing in his diary. He's also trying to learn how to cook.
• He is rather disorganized and is a bit of a hoarder, keeping all the rubbish he finds on his journeys regardless of whether they are valuable or not.
