Profile

Even before Vailinn awoke into the Grove, he knew exactly what he'd do with his life. In his Dream, he was always among a garden of beautiful blooming flowers, bountiful crops, and the sort. It was gorgeous. Everything bloomed under his touch and he found happiness among such a garden. When he Awoke as the sun was setting in a beautiful sky splashed with oranges, purples, and blues, he knew he wanted to create a garden as amazing as the one he saw in his Dream.

He made a good life for himself in the Grove, tending to gardens and taking care of everything that grew within the Grove. At first, he was the best with flowers, loving all of their different colors and smells. The guidance of the mentors in the Grove then had him turn to growing food, as well; anything from herbs to vegetables and even fruit trees. He succeeded in growing anything he decided he wanted to grow...almost, at least.

It was just after Vailinn had turned two that he had an apple tree that he was tending to, or attempting to tend to. The poor thing was sick, infected by some strange disease that none of the gardeners were able to explain or cure. Every remedy was tried, and yet the tree continued to wither. Vailinn himself did all he could, using the limited magic knowledge he had in an attempt to help it, but nothing worked. And before his very eyes he saw one of his first plants die. For him, back then, it was an absolute tragedy. He remembered mourning for the poor tree and crying over its loss. It was then he was approached by an older sylvari, one that comforted him, saying that death and decay were natural cycles of life. Nothing in nature could last forever, and eventually all things return to the earth and would help new plants grow in their place. As a kind gesture, he took off a branch from the tree and fashioned it into the staff Vailinn now carries around with him; a constant reminder about this important lesson.

After that, Vailinn truly began to understand a lot more about life, and in turn understood that life would always grow from death. It made him much more of an efficient gardener in that, rather than try to save every plant that he grew, he would allow them to go through their natural cycles and clear them away for new plants to grow. The only exception is if he knows the cause of their ailment is curable or caused by some outside force, like bugs or otherwise.

The rest of his time was then spent in the Grove and beyond. Over the years, he continued to learn more about his magic and in turn used that knowledge to weave together beautiful gardens. And, beyond that, he also picked up the job of a shaper around three years of age, helping to take care of the many sylvari outposts in Caledon in more ways than just providing them with food.

It was in Cathal that finally he was greeted by Aithne, Moryn, and Othwyn, whom all told him about a sylvari group by the name of Havenwood. And so now he dedicates his time and talents to them, working slowly on creating a bountiful garden and other sustainable food sources within the canyon they call home.
